Our Graduate Medical Education (GME) team had a great trip to ACGME's Annual Educational Conference in San Diego. As the largest gathering of GME professionals, this event brought together nearly 5,000 educators, leaders & innovators passionate about advancing medical training.

We are grateful to our residents and fellows for the important work they do each day in patient care and medical education at MUSC. In celebration of Thank a Resident Day, medical students from the Gold Humanism Honor Society shared cupcakes and notes of gratitude.

Meet the COM Professor: Dr. Paul McDermott! Dr. McDermott is a professor in the Department of Medicine and serves as co-director of our preclerkship medical curriculum. He is passionate about teaching and supporting the next generation of physicians.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the recent passing of Dr. Layton McCurdy, Dean Emeritus and former chair of the Department of Psychiatry. We extend our condolences to his wife Gwen and family. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.

We’re pleased to announce Dr. Shikhar Mehrotra as the next Chair of our Dept. of Pharmacology & Immunology. Since 2006, he’s held multiple leadership roles, led innovative research, and been a respected collaborator and mentor. We’re excited for this next chapter at MUSC.

Dr. Habib Rizk is improving vertigo care with a TRV Chair, one of the few on the East Coast. It safely rotates patients and tracks eye movements to diagnose and treat Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo in those who cannot undergo standard testing. musc.edu/content-hub/Ne…
