@MikeGrunwald Depends on the GHG. Methane's residence time is ~12 years. And even for CO2, temps roughly stabilize at net zero, not keep rising. The population argument fails because decline is too slow and uncorrelated with per-capita emissions to matter on relevant timescales.

This isn’t how climate change works! Greenhouse gases are cumulative. Every ton of carbon we pump into the atmosphere traps more heat. So even if global population was dropping (it’s not) warming would keep getting worse until we start removing more C than we emit.

@StevenDAllison I agree with Steve that there is ample natural genetic diversity to utilize and strong potential to use evolutionary forcing to enhance functioning. But, genetic engineering could play a role for some traits/functions.

@StevenDAllison On the one hand, our ability to enhance soil functioning with inoculants is limited because they start drowning in diversity as soon as they hit the ground. But, biologicals can be an important enabler of the practices that build up soil health over time.

@Cornell @CornellMAE I wonder if the researchers had planned on making a mushroom-robot for a long time, or if it was a spore of the moment decision?
