Chief Justice Roberts says the court isn't political. This week, six justices "read" 107 pages of legal briefing in 38 minutes and let Alabama gerrymander its congressional map mid-election. The stopwatch says otherwise.

"the university has required that student graduation speeches be recorded ahead of time, in response to complaints last year about a student speaker who criticized Israel. The same rules, however, do not apply to commencement speakers like Dr. Haidt." nytimes.com/2026/05/13/us/…

Weird to call Jon Haidt who has remained silent about the radical suppression of pro-Palestinian speech, the most punitive censorship campaign to hit the US in a couple generations at least, a champion of free speech.

NYU professor @JonHaidt, who has stood at the forefront of the movement to challenge academia’s culture of suppressing the free exchange of ideas, is facing a campaign to cancel his graduation address. nytimes.com/2026/05/13/us/…

@benryanwriter are we just going to be silent about how student speakers were forced to record their speeches because the administration wanted to prevent any speech related to palestine (and how they revoked a student's degree over it last year). you can't claim free speech in that context

NYU’s Student Government Assembly is urging the university to reconsider selecting Jonathan Haidt as commencement speaker, arguing his views on DEI, transgender identity and social justice are out of step with the values and diversity of the Class of 2026. The letter says students feel “disappointment, disgust, defeat, and embarrassment” over the choice of @JonHaidt and accuses NYU of prioritizing a narrow ideological narrative over students’ experiences.

do y'all have no humanity for the trans students who have worked for years for their diploma and now have to hear from someone on their big day that their identity is actually social contagion?

@TWilliamsAuthor @benryanwriter @CHSommers @JonHaidt How does it make sense at a celebration to mark 4-5 years of hard work by a group of people to force them to pay to listen to someone patronize and insult them? What a weird time to force your political views on someone. Should I come to your events to say you’re an idiot?

Since 2023, @JonHaidt’s university has boarded off public space, banned student groups, expanded “hate speech” codes and effectively censored student graduation speeches while the professor has been quiet as a mouse. This pop-psych Tartuffe is not a supporter of free speech.

NYU has boarded off public space, disbanded student groups that promoted liberal discussion of essential issues, blurred the definition of hate speech for punitive ends and NYU Stern prof @JonHaidt has been NOWHERE. To describe him as a supporter of campus free speech is bizarre!

@sfmcguire79 @SamuelAbramsAEI i mean the issue is that if you got on campus at the start of 2024 like I did, universities have been in a dick sucking competition of trump and have cracked down heavily on free speech. so nyu platforming haldt is status quo behavior for them now

NYU student: “Haidt’s selection is a gutting reminder that our institution is more committed to platforming speakers who won’t rock the boat rather than those who would encourage us to make a change for the better.” “Gutting.” @SamuelAbramsAEI on this ridiculous episode:

The reason to pay grad students decently isn’t because they “deserve” it, it’s because that’s the only way to get any degree of socioeconomic diversity in who enters academia
Ashvin Gandhi@ashdgandhi

I'm a former Harvard PhD student. Based on my experience, current social science students probably make a bit over $250k + healthcare over 5 years, with just 784 hours of required TA work. That's almost $320/hour for the "work" and the rest is classes and your own research.

I'm going to be honest, I'm way more plugged into politics than like 95% of people and I didn't even know that Abdul El-Sayed was an Oxford educated Rhodes Scholar until this "He's 'just' a doctor, not a practicing medical physician" bullshit started so, yeah, this might backfire

Politico: Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed for years has publicly said he’s a physician — but there’s overwhelming evidence that he’s had no experience as a licensed medical doctor. politico.com/news/2026/05/1…
