Love this recent email: "God is using Revive Our Hearts to keep this 70-yr-old woman focused on His plan so she will not turn into a grouchy old woman." Yes, Lord. Please don't us turn into grouchy old women!

Up from the grave He arose; with a mighty triumph o'er his foes; He arose a victor from the dark domain, and He lives forever, with His saints to reign. He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose! (Robert Lowry, 1874)

“This Easter may the empty tomb be your beacon of hope, your comfort in sorrow, your strength for the battle, a reminder that you are loved, your motivation to continue, and your assurance of final victory.” @PaulTripp Amen.

Attended a celebration last night for a just-engaged young couple. I was at his parents’ engagement party 24 years ago. His grandparents have been dear friends of mine for 47 years. Two takeaways: • God is faithful to His servants and to their children and their children’s children. • “God sets the lonely in families” (Ps 68:6). For decades, when I was single, He intertwined my life with this and other families. They welcomed me and I sought to bless them. Now, as a widow, three generations of these precious friends are wrapping their lives and hearts around mine and pouring His love into me in countless practical and meaningful ways. Yesterday, as I wept during a Good Friday service, a 14-YO granddaughter in this family quietly put her arm around my shoulder. Such grace. Is this a lonely season for you? Let Him put you in families. Are you in a family? How can you be the heart and hands of Jesus to those who are alone? Together, may we reflect our Father’s sacrificial love to our world. 💞

Jesus. A Man of Sorrows, acquainted with grief. He bore our sins and sorrows as His own, that we might bear His righteousness, comfort, and joy as our own. Hallelujah, what a Savior.

Low in the grave He lay, Jesus my Savior. Waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord. Vainly they watch His bed, Jesus my Savior. Vainly they seal the dead, Jesus my Lord. (Robert Lowry, 1874)

Despised, rejected Pierced, crushed Oppressed, afflicted Cut off from the land of the living Because of our rebellion For the iniquities of us all We all went astray like sheep The Lord has punished Him Like a lamb led to the slaughter We are healed by His wounds Isaiah 53

“It is finished!” From His finished work flow “full pardon for the guilty, perfect righteousness for the ungodly, peace with God for the estranged, adoption for the orphaned, sanctification for the defiled, and eternal glory secured for all who are in Him.” @JoelBeeke

“David … wept loudly until [he] had no more strength to weep. … “But David found strength in the LORD his God.” (1 Samuel 30:5–6) Weak and weeping souls, let us find strength in the Lord our God this day.

O Love that will not let me go, I rest my weary soul in thee…. O Joy that seekest me thru’ pain, I cannot close my heart to thee; I trace the rainbow thru’ the rain And feel the promise is not vain That morn shall tearless be. Written by George Matheson in 1882: “I was suffering from extreme mental distress, and [this] hymn was the fruit of pain."

Easter Greeting Faithful women sought Him weeping Weeping at the break of dawn Sought their Lord where He lay sleeping In the love of hearts forlorn Life for death that wondrous morning Joy for sorrow, faith for fear For their tears the angel’s greeting Christ is risen! He is not here … Mary comes, a refuge seeking For her mourning and her pain Lo! a well-known voice is speaking Lo! the Master calls her name For her grief, a glad reunion Living Teacher, dear reward For her tears the glorious mission To announce the risen Lord Christ is risen! Risen, sister! Brother, Christ is risen indeed! (Indelible Grace; Michelle Raybourn, Mikey Rogers; based on an ancient Greek hymn)

In my regular reading in the CSB Notetaking Bible, Revive Our Hearts Edition, this week, I came to this prayer, which I wrote over a year ago. Such a timely Providence and a needed reminder for my heart. The Lord has helped me. He is helping me. He will help me. Ebenezer.

A kind friend sent me this quote from my book Incomparable: 50 Days with Jesus: “When you wonder if you can keep pressing into the pain, remember what you’ve seen here. Go to Gethsemane. Ponder the crushing He endured for your sins and mine. And press on.” Day 22, “Hard-Pressed: The Soul-Anguish of Christ”

“Worship the LORD with all your heart. Don’t turn away to follow worthless things that can’t profit or rescue you; they are worthless.” (1 Samuel 12:20–21) To exalt, follow, and serve anything other than Him is futile and foolish. He alone is worthy of our whole-hearted worship.

If we could see and know what they see and know on the Other Side, our sadness would be overshadowed by joy and we would live on the edge of our seat in eager anticipation of joining them there. In the meantime, we wait, walk, and work—sometimes weeping, always worshiping.

Angel to Gideon: The Lord is with you. Gideon: If the Lord is with us, why has all this happened? Where are all His wonders? People are saying He has abandoned us. God: Go deliver Israel. I am sending you. Gideon: How can I deliver Israel? My family is weak… I am young … God: I will be with you. (Judges 6) God with us. All we need. Nothing more. Nothing less.
