The Police has been at war with the Green Brigade since 2006 and Celtic has never been a neutral actor. In 2011, this dynamic was summed up in the Scotsman which described the Police's intention to "smash' the Green Brigade while Celtic welcomed external intervention...familiar.

Today, the Green Brigade remains indefinitely banned from all Celtic matches. Although a Club-imposed sanction, the Club now claims that the Police is preventing the ban from being revoked, citing 'safety' concerns which include admission of guilt and anti-Police sentiment.
