#FactFriday Feeling better doesn’t mean the infection is gone. Stopping antibiotics without proper guidance can fuel Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) making infections harder to treat. ✔️Always follow your healthcare provider’s advice. ✔️ Only use antibiotics when prescribed ✔️ Always complete your dose ✔️ Take antibiotics exactly as prescribed ✔️ Don’t stop, skip, or share medications. ✅Your actions today protect your health tomorrow.! #FactFriday #StopAMR #PublicHealth #NCDCNigeria

📝Strengthening Subnational AMR Governance in Nigeria Nigeria is taking critical steps to combat Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) from the ground up. On the 17th March 2026, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention(NCDC), alongside FHI360, World Health Organization (WHO), and Federal Ministries, convened a National Multisectoral Stakeholders Workshop to strengthen subnational AMR governance. With AMR causing an estimated 1.14 million deaths globally in 2021, the message was clear: “Real impact occurs at the subnational level where the tyre meets the road.” The workshop focused on: ✔️ Strengthening governance and coordination structures at the subnational level ✔️ Aligning state level implementation with Nigeria’s National Action Plan (NAP 2.0) ✔️ Developing practical frameworks and templates for effective AMR response ✔️ Promoting a One Health approach to safeguard public health With strong collaboration from government ministries, development partners, and implementing organizations, this engagement marks a critical step toward translating national strategies into real, measurable impact across states. AMR is not a distant threat, it is already here. The time to act is now!! #AMRAwareness #PublicHealth #NCDCNigeria #GlobalHealth

The fight against antimicrobial resistance cannot be won in laboratories alone — it must be won in communities. On the 12th day of March 2026, Nigeria officially launched the Com-WATCH Project (Community Access to Effective Antibiotics) — a two-year initiative focused on closing critical data gaps at the community level and strengthening access to quality antibiotics. With stakeholders across government, health, and development sectors in attendance, the launch showcased how digital innovation, real-time data, and community engagement can transform how we detect and respond to substandard and falsified medicines. This is more than a project launch. It is the start of a coordinated effort to protect the effectiveness of antibiotics and strengthen Nigeria’s health security from the ground up. #AMR #ComWATCH #DigitalHealth #HealthSecurity #Nigeria

🤝 NCDC and Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Strengthen Collaboration on Lassa Fever Response Today, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) held a strategic engagement to review the rising cases of Lassa fever in Nigeria, with a particular focus on protecting healthcare workers and strengthening clinical vigilance across health facilities. The meeting, convened by the Director-General of NCDC, Dr Jide Idris, brought together leadership from both NCDC and NMA to discuss the current epidemiological situation, the increasing risk to frontline health workers, and the critical role of doctors in early detection and infection prevention. As part of the engagement, the leadership of NCDC and NMA jointly issued and signed a national advisory to doctors and healthcare professionals across Nigeria to strengthen vigilance during the ongoing Lassa fever transmission season. The advisory calls on doctors and healthcare workers to: ▫️Maintain a high index of suspicion for Lassa fever in patients presenting with febrile illness ▫️Ensure early detection, prompt isolation, and immediate reporting of suspected cases ▫️Strictly adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) measures ▫️Promote responsible antimicrobial use in clinical practice The engagement also highlighted NCDC’s 30-day national IPC action plan aimed at reducing infections among healthcare workers and strengthening infection prevention practices in health facilities, particularly in high-burden areas. Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to working together to strengthen Nigeria’s outbreak response, protect healthcare workers, and improve health security across the country. 📄 Read the full advisory here: ncdc.gov.ng/themes/common/… #LassaFever #ProtectHealthcareWorkers #HealthSecurity #NCDCNigeria #NMA

In collaboration with CEPIvaccines, the ENABLE study Coordination team at the NCDC have marked another Milestone in the The ENABLE 1.5 Project. Following serum samples accountability checks by the Compliance Partner across the three ENABLE study sites, over 7,800 samples including the final batch from AEFUTHA have now been successfully shipped to NRL Gaduwa for serological analysis. This next phase of the study will bring us closer to generating the scientific evidence needed to strengthen vaccine development and response strategies against Lassa fever. The fight against Lassa fever is a collective effort and progress like this is made possible through strong partnerships and shared commitment to public health. #LassaFever #EnableStudy #PublicHealth #NCDC #CEPI #VaccineResearch

📝Strengthening Infection Prevention in Ekiti State The Ekiti State Ministry of Health and Human Services recently organized a two-day training for Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Focal Persons from secondary and tertiary health facilities across the state. The training was conducted as part of Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) activities, with funding support from the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF). This initiative was prompted by the recent increase in Lassa fever infections among healthcare workers, highlighting the urgent need to strengthen infection prevention practices in health facilities. During the training, participants enhanced their understanding of IPC principles, learned how to identify facility-specific risks, implement preventive actions, and effectively apply infection control protocols to protect both healthcare workers and patients. The Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Olusola Gbenga-Igotun, who attended the session, commended the participants and encouraged them to serve as “Frontline Champions” of Infection Prevention and Control. She also emphasized that protecting healthcare workers remains a top priority and urged participants to cascade the training to other staff within their respective facilities. #LassaFeverPrevention #PublicHealth #IPC #NCDCNigeria
