Killed 20 million. Mao was atheist. Killed 45 million. Hitler was not motivated by religion. Killed 6 million Jews. The problem was never religion. When something tragic happens to Muslims, Muslim stakeholders don’t wait for the government. They take action. Their governors, clerics, scholars, activists, and influencers swing into motion. Heck, didn’t about 33 Muslim SANs provide legal defense for the killers of Deborah? But it is not so with us Christians in the Nigerian church. Muslim authorities take the protection of Muslims as their responsibility. Even though they are the terrorists, killers, and aggressors, their leaders and institutions still mount a defense for them. But this is not the case for the Nigerian church, who are being innocently killed by Muslims. It doesn’t matter how many people Muslim terrorists kill in Jos, Kwara, Kano, or Borno. It doesn’t matter how many priests or friars are kidnapped. It doesn’t matter how many pastors are burned in their cars, or how many Christians are killed in their homes. It doesn’t matter. Hardly any prominent pastor makes a strong, demanding statement to the government. We rarely see a coalition of influential ministers making firm, decisive statements or petitioning the government. It seems that no matter the tragedy, our conferences still go on. Our music concerts are still held as scheduled. We still shut down stadiums. We still gather and gleefully upload arrival reels in our exotic cars on social media. We are dying, and yet we are at ease. The Bible places a woe on that: “Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who feel secure on the mountain of Samaria…” — Amos 6:1 The reason we behave this way in the South is because we think what is happening in the North will not reach us. Judah thought so too. They believed the calamity that befell Northern Israel at the hands of the Assyrians would not happen to them in the South. But it did. And remember, we are meant to stand for one another. So this is how we are thinking of redesigning the Igbo apprenticeship program “Igba boy”. For the pilot program, we will likely take in 200 persons to engage in the training on global quality carpentry, bricklaying, tilling, plumbing, HVAC, POP and electricals. The trainees will engage in an intensive 1 year program which they will be housed and fed. No holidays during the program. An additional 3 months will be on business and commercialization. Once they complete the cohort and they meet the standards set, they will be settled with a good amount of money to build on the business arm of their skills. Those who don’t meet up will be dropped off from the program. We will be visiting training centers in Togo and Germany in the coming weeks to solidify our plans and training partnerships.
