@NestaJA Minister, I suggest caution. I only see very few roads done by Spark but I was surprised to see the condition of Richings Avenue off Hope Road. Obviously specs aren’t being enforced

But it is important to place the opposition’s criticism in context. In correspondence sent to me by Dr Campbell regarding SPARK priorities in Eastern Westmoreland, Cave to Kentucky was not listed among the roads he asked to be treated as priority. The roads he identified were Lennox Bigwoods, Fustic Grove, Orange Hill, Ashton to Leamington, Argyle Mountain, and Gordon to Congress,” he said.

Parliamentary debates on Bills tabled allows members to evaluate and improve legislation before the house. When NaRRA was tabled, the Government engaged in a debate where members of the House on both sides were allowed to propose amendments to the bill. #NaRRA

They say NARRA is a growth bill posing as reconstruction, so what? Why not use recovery to strengthen the economy at the same time? Why not fix bureaucracy and improve execution while we rebuild? On consultation, this Government listens. Just look at SPARK, where Jamaicans chose the roads that matter to them. Recovery and growth can, and must, happen together.

If we are to follow the pronouncements of the PNP regarding accountability and the NARRA Bill, then I must say to our Minister of Education that while there has been calls for civics in schools, we may also need civics in the parliament because some of our colleagues are unaware of their role and function in holding state institutions accountable. #NaRRA #PAAC #PAC

#NaRRA is about deciding whether Jamaica is prepared to govern reconstruction with the urgency that the times demand or whether we will continue to pretend that extraordinary national challenges can be met by ordinary bureaucratic habits. That is the choice before us, and if we are honest, it's not a difficult choice because reconstruction following the devastion of Hurricane Melissa is not ordinary government business. 🇯🇲

I wake up this morning with the continued understanding that Jamaica is in good hands . We are lead by a Prime Minister of vision and who has a profound understanding of what Jamaica needs to move towards sustainable recovery and resurgence .

Mr. Buchanan stressed that the assistance was not intended to replace totally destroyed units or to compensate to the level of loss sustained as “government is not an insurer of buildings. It is assisting persons to put their lives back together” Persons whose houses were totally destroyed would receive $20,000, while persons whose houses were severely damaged would receive grants of $7,500 to $10,000. #NaRRA When you compare the relief, recovery, rebuilding efforts of this administration to Hurricane Melissa with that of previous responses including that of the 2004 administration, you will see that our response has been more targeted and more meaningful. This is a demonstration of a different type of government.
