#DidYouKnow Leh’s Project Tsang-da Urban Mission has transformed sustainable waste management in a remote, high-altitude region. It introduced 100% door-to-door waste collection, source segregation, and a solar-powered waste management system. A 30 tonnes-per-day (TPD) solar-powered plant was set up through the initiative, achieving ~95% waste processing, while converting waste into useful products and generating revenue. This initiative has resulted in improved cleanliness and a significant reduction in open dumping in Leh. This self-sustaining waste management model can be potentially replicated in other regions. NITI Aayog Releases seventh Edition of Trade Watch Quarterly (Q3 FY 2025-26) Shri Suman Bery, Vice-Chairman, NITI Aayog, released the seventh edition of Trade Watch Quarterly for Q3 FY 2025-26, in the presence of Dr. Arvind Virmani, Membe Global trade remained resilient in 2025 despite persistent uncertainties, with services, particularly digitally delivered segments, outpacing goods trade. India’s trade performance in Q3 FY 2025-26 remained steady, with total merchandise and services trade reaching USD 1.37 trillion during April–December 2025-26, reflecting 5.3% year-on-year growth. The report highlights Gems and Jewellery as a key global trade segment, with demand excluding raw gold valued at USD 378 billion in 2024. India’s exports in this segment stand at USD 29.5 billion, accounting for nearly 8% of the global market. The analysis underscores the need to align with evolving global demand, including lower-carat jewellery and emerging segments such as platinum and silver, while strengthening value addition, design capabilities, access to finance, and improving policy support, refining capacity, and market access to enhance global competitiveness. Enhancing Mobility and Independence: WALK for Parkinson’s Care Introducing WALK, a clinically validated wearable developed by Lifespark Technologies to support people living with Parkinson’s disease. In India, nearly 70 lakh individuals are affected, many experiencing freezing of gait (FOG) that significantly limits mobility and independence. WALK uses sensor-driven cues and remote monitoring to enable safer, more stable movement while supporting continuous, home-based neurological care. The solution has benefited ~300 families, improving mobility and independence.
