Costs != Fees, so I wonder what will happen in the long run here.
Costs are things like costs of filing, service of process, depositions, transcripts, etc.
Fees are what you pay your attorneys for their time. (This is the "no fees unless we win" thing personal injury guys do in ads - they still bill you for costs)
Both add up in litigation, but the order specifically refers to costs, which in lawyer-speak is a whole separate thing from fees. Let's hope @ogafroman gets his attorneys' fees, which almost certainly is a much larger number.

That number is shocking. The fact that it's this prevalent says far too much about the practice of law in 2026 and the quality (or lack thereof) of lawyering.
Assuming (as we must) that those who were caught are only some percentage of the entire group, it's truly scary.
And my guess is it's about piss-poor prompting and general laziness.
Saying "Here's plaintiff's brief, summarize it, analyze the law, pull the cases they cited, and find me real cases that I can use to counter it, with actual citations"
is far different than
"Here's plaintiff's brief, draft me a response brief."
#1 gets you legitimate results and has saved you a ton of time, but you still need to do the rest of the work yourself.
#2 gets you hallucinations, because AI is designed to be a people-pleaser.
Pretty sure we know what happened here.
