(continued) Out of an abundance of caution, the affected ocean water area will remain closed to swimming, surfing, and diving until the results of follow-up water quality monitoring meet acceptable standards.
Per @ochealth: The open coastal area from the San Gabriel River jetty to the Anaheim Bay breakwater in Seal Beach has been closed due to the occurrence of multiple sewage spills that were caused by weather-impacted surges on sewer mains in areas of LA County that border OC.
EXCITING NEWS! Starting in February, we are hosting a third cleanup ✨every month✨ at our adopted channel in Costa Mesa. Channel cleanups help us remove debris from local waterways before it can pollute our coast. Visit our website to learn more: coastkeeper.org/cleanup-oc/
We're hiring! We are looking for a passionate, self-motivated applicant willing to make a splash by leading our marine restoration program. Click the link below for more information about the position and application process!

That’s a wrap on a successful year of cleanups! Together we collected a record amount of debris and prevented pounds of trash from flowing into our ocean. Thank you to our outstanding volunteers and @OCCoastkeeper for their hard work and dedication. #AD73in2023
Whoa @washingtonpost this headline "Californians may soon drink treated sewage water" needs an immediate corrx.
This casts water professionals and California in a negative light and the headline is scientifically and technically inaccurate as many of the California's water reporters have discovered.
Currently all Americans, and all the people of earth, receive some mix of treated wastewater effluent, or septic tank discharge into aquifers, as part of their drinking water supplies. Water flows downhill, one city's cleaned wastewater discharge to a river goes into the next city's water intake system.
For example, follow the Potomac River upstream from DC, and there is plenty of treated effluent that WaPo reporters and editors have been drinking for generations.
We know it's hard to see the intricacies of #cawater from far over there in the nation's capital but please help Americans understand how water really works and how it flows.
How about a holiday gift for America's hard-working, passionate, and unseen water workers? Tell the true story of water that people can understand - interconnected, precious, and water professionals can safely and purely recycle it over and over.
Sewage spills have become all too common in Laguna due to infrastructure failure! Visit the link below to learn more about Laguna's sewage problems from the Voice of OC.

"The OC Health Care Agency, Environmental Health Division, has closed the open coastal area from Victoria Beach to Goff Island Beach in Laguna Beach due to a sewage spill. The sewage spill of approximately 1,964 gallons was caused by a blockage in a sewer main in Laguna Beach."
Laguna Beach has suffered from another sewage spill less than one month after the previous one, resulting in an ocean water closure until water quality improves. See below for the official statement from the OC Health Care Agency.

Woo-hoo!!! State Water Resources Control Board approves Direct Potable Reuse regulations after robust ten year process including expert panels, extensive pathbreaking research, and intensive engagement. An important piece of the climate adaptation path we need to be on. Congrats!
After a decade of advocacy, today California made a landmark decision to adopt the nation’s first comprehensive Direct Potable Reuse regulations. Now, all CA communities have the tools necessary to reuse all of their wastewater into drinking #cawater resources.
This past Saturday, our volunteers removed over 3,000 pounds of trash from the Santa Ana-Delhi channel! 🥳 This waterway leads directly into Upper Newport Bay, SoCal's largest remaining natural estuary, so it is imperative that debris gets removed before it can wash downstream.
These photos were taken at the Santa Ana River Mouth, where constant off-leash dog activity threatens Western Snowy Plover and California Least Tern populations that have inhabited the area for thousands of years! Learn more here: coastkeeper.org/sar-mouth-fall…
Off-leash and illegal dog activity on our beaches can severely disrupt shorebird habitats. When dogs or humans chase or "flush" birds, it can cause them to abandon their nests. Help our coastal ecosystems thrive by keeping dogs on a leash (max 6 ft) and only in permitted areas.🐕🦺
