On behalf of the southeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria, the land of enterprise and entrepreneurship, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the South-East Development Commission (SEDC) Bill into law yesterday. This is not just a legislative victory but a historic milestone for the South-East geopolitical zone. The commission, with funds allocation from the Federation Account will see to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses, and other infrastructural damages suffered by the zone as a result of the civil war. It will also tackle ecological problems and other related environmental or developmental challenges in the South-East States, including Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, and Ebonyi.

Earlier today, I was conferred with the honour of Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (FNIPR Hons) at the ongoing Nigeria Public Relations Week 2026 in Kaduna, a recognition I receive with humility and deep gratitude. In my remarks at this prestigious conference, I highlighted the critical role of public relations in shaping responsive and people-centred governance. I emphasised the need to institutionalise robust needs assessment mechanisms that enable us to better understand citizens’ concerns and chart informed, practical pathways forward. At a time when the 2025 Edelman Trust Barometer indicates that over 61% of citizens globally express grievance toward institutions, the responsibility of public relations professionals has never been more critical. From championing the Green Chamber Magazine in the 9th Assembly, to convening electronic town halls in partnership international institutions, and contributing to the adoption of the historic Post-Conflict Peace Framework at the 152nd IPU Assembly in Istanbul, my commitment to bridging the information gap between leadership and the people has remained firm. I commend the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), under the leadership of its President and Chairman of Council, Dr. Ike Neliaku, for its sustained commitment to professionalism, ethical communication, and reputation management. I dedicate this recognition to my dear constituents, the good people of Bende Federal Constituency, my colleagues in the National Assembly, and all Nigerians who continue to believe in the power of constructive engagement and accountable leadership.

This afternoon, I held a fruitful meeting with my friend @RMontgomeryUK , the British High Commissioner to Nigeria. Our discussion focused on Nigeria’s political developments, our work on the Constitutional Review Process, as well as other areas of mutual interest. As our nation continues to chart its course, it is important that we maintain open and constructive dialogue with international partners who have genuine stake in seeing our nation thrive. Diplomacy is not just a function of foreign policy but a bridge between shared aspirations and collective progress. I remain committed to building relationships that serve the best interests of our nation and her people as nation-building extends beyond our borders, and every conversation that strengthens partnerships on the global stage is a step in the right direction.

Honoured to lead the adoption of a landmark resolution on post-conflict recovery at the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Istanbul, Turkey. Serving as co-rapporteur, I presented the draft resolution on “The Role of Parliaments in Establishing Robust Post-Conflict Management Mechanisms and Restoring a Just and Lasting Peace” at the Assembly. The adoption of this resolution signals growing recognition that sustainable peace requires strong, inclusive, and accountable parliamentary institutions. The resolution commits parliaments worldwide to a five-pillar framework for recovery: strengthened institutions, equitable economic reconstruction, social reconciliation, inclusive political life, and sustained international support anchored in human security, dignity, and resilience. At its core, post-conflict recovery should be led nationally. Parliaments must guide recovery through holistic frameworks that ensure reconstruction strategies, legal reforms, and institutional strengthening are designed through inclusive national processes with external assistance aligned to nationally defined priorities and subject to democratic oversight. Peace is not an event. It is a deliberate, sustained, and inclusive process and Parliaments must be at the centre of building it.

Today, I had the honour of delivering the Vote of Thanks on behalf of the PhD graduating class at the Convocation Ceremony of the University of Calabar, an institution that has shaped my academic journey from my first law degree to my doctorate. The PhD journey is yet another reminder that education is not merely about earning titles, but about accepting responsibility. Knowledge must not remain in research papers; it must influence policy, inspire innovation, and improve lives. As scholars, we belong to a small global community entrusted with intellectual leadership. Our task now is clear: to bridge the gap between knowledge and national transformation. I congratulate my fellow convocants, and I extend my sincere appreciation to our lecturers, families, and the entire academic community who made this achievement possible. Together, we will ensure that education continues to serve humanity and advance the future of our nation, Nigeria.

Earlier today in Lagos, I witnessed the commissioning of the Tolu School Complex in Ajegunle, comprising 36 schools and a stadium with 19 mini football pitches, one of the key legacy projects of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State. This landmark project, commissioned by the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, on behalf of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, reflects the achievements and far-reaching impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which continues to transform critical sectors, particularly education and human capital development. I commend Governor Sanwo-Olu for his strong commitment to improving educational infrastructure and creating an enabling environment for learning across the state. The facility unveiled today signifies the opening of new possibilities and opportunities for thousands of young Nigerians whose aspirations will be shaped within this environment. The National Assembly will continue to support policies and initiatives that strengthen education, as it remains the foundation for sustainable national development across Nigeria.

As we celebrate this Easter, we reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, a reassurance of our redemption and the triumph of light over darkness. This season reminds us of the gift of love, grace, and salvation to humanity. It is a call to reflection, compassion, and commitment to the values that bind us together. In a time like this, the message of Easter reminds us that even in moments of trial, hope remains, and a new dawn is possible. Let us also extend kindness to the vulnerable among us, knowing that every act of compassion contributes to building a stronger and more united nation. May this Easter bring hope, peace, and prosperity to our homes and our nation. May it strengthen our unity, inspire service, and guide us toward a future defined by greatness. Wishing you a blessed Easter celebration. HAPPY EASTER!

The recent attacks and killings of innocent citizens in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, are deeply tragic and disturbing. I strongly condemn these barbaric acts, which have plunged communities into grief and sorrow. Such senseless violence is unacceptable, and the sanctity of human life must be upheld at all times. My thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones in this unfortunate incident, as well as the Government of Plateau State and I pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured. At this difficult time, I urge our security agencies to rise to the occasion, ensuring that no stone is left unturned in the investigation. The perpetrators of these heinous acts must be apprehended and brought to justice. I also call on all stakeholders to strengthen security measures within their respective communities. As leaders, we remain committed to ensuring that such incidents are treated with the seriousness they deserve and are not repeated. May the souls of the departed rest in peace.

Yesterday at the National Convention of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, we witnessed yet another defining moment that reaffirmed our strength, unity, and commitment to progress. With delegates drawn from across the country, the convention was conducted in a peaceful, orderly, and transparent manner, culminating in the successful election of members of the National Working Committee who will pilot the affairs of the party in the years ahead. Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, our party continues to grow in strength and purpose, even as the nation witnesses bold steps towards economic reform, institutional development, and inclusive progress. I congratulate the National Chairman, Prof. Nentanwe Yilwatda, and all newly elected officials. The task ahead is significant, but it also presents a clear opportunity to deepen unity, strengthen our structures, and prepare the party for future victories. With the peace and stability we have achieved so far, I am confident that our journey to 2027 will be defined not just by success at the polls, but by tangible progress that impacts the lives of Nigerians across the country.

Today in Enugu State, leaders and stakeholders of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), convened from across the South East as we conducted a peaceful and well-organised zonal congress to elect party officials. Following the successful conduct of congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels, the outcomes were collectively adopted as a true reflection of the will of party members, with further resolution that the zonal congress would proceed through the consensus option, in line with Section 84(2) of the Electoral Act. I congratulate all newly elected zonal officials of the party. I also commend the Governors of the Southeast for their commitment to the success of this congress. The seamless coordination, calm atmosphere, and orderliness witnessed throughout this process at every level speak to the unity and cohesion in our various states. Ahead of the National Convention this weekend, I urge all members and stakeholders to remain steadfast in their support for the growth and stability of our party, and in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. The goal of 2027 remains within reach. With sustained unity, dedication, and collective resolve, victory is assured.
