Nonviolence is not passive. It is disciplined courage, rooted in faith and a belief that change can be won without becoming what we oppose.

On this day in 1966, Dad was in Atlanta, Georgia, delivering his sermon, “Making the Best of a Bad Mess.” He spoke to people navigating hardship and uncertainty, offering hope, clarity, and a reminder that even in difficult moments, we are still called to move forward with purpose and faith in change.

So much is coming at people every day: the cost of food, medicine, the pressures families are facing. It can be hard to focus on any one issue. That’s why I was glad to sit down with @ColinAllenAPOA, Executive Director of @OwnersAlliance, to discuss how The Alliance is helping people better understand homeownership as a path to stability and generational wealth.

In 1963, Dad inspired a nation with a dream rooted in love and justice. Now, it’s up to all of us to carry it forward. This #VolunteerAppreciationWeek, we celebrate the people answering that call through service, helping us reach 100 million hours.

#OTD In 1963, William Lewis Moore left Baltimore on foot, determined to deliver a message of equality to the governor of Mississippi. A postal worker and veteran, he believed in the power of peaceful action. He was shot and killed during his solo march. We carry forward his call for justice.

In every act of service, there’s a belief that a better world is possible. This #VolunteerAppreciationWeek, we honor those who choose to believe and act.

We cannot build the Beloved Community without caring for the world we all share. Climate justice is social justice. This Earth Day, we commit to doing our part and pushing for the change our future demands.

The Beloved Community is bigger than borders. It’s a global call to live together with dignity, understanding, and a commitment to one another.

Dad called out the “Triple Evils” of racism, poverty, and violence. Our work is to confront them not with hate, but with a radical commitment to nonviolence.

On this day in 1989, five Black and Latino teenagers were wrongfully arrested in the Central Park Five case, a miscarriage of justice driven by coerced confessions, racial bias, and a presumption of guilt that shaped public perception long before the facts were known. Years later, DNA evidence and a confession from another man cleared them, but not before their lives were profoundly altered. Today, Yusef Salaam has transformed that harm into action as a New York City Council Member—proof that truth, accountability, and organizing for justice still matter.

This moment is heavy. Voting rights are being stripped. Voices are being silenced. But history reminds us: the greatest work is often done in the darkness, away from the spotlights. When we organize, we rise stronger than before.

I say this often because it must be said: my daughter’s generation has fewer rights now than when they were born. My father spoke of staying awake during times of change. Today, we are witnessing a generation that refuses to sleep. They see clearly. They act boldly. They will shape what comes next.
