Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs Receives Russia’s Observer to the OIC Jeddah: 5 May 2026 His Excellency Ambassador Dr Tariq Ali Bakheet, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs, received today at his office at the OIC headquarters His Excellency Ambassador Turko Daudov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the OIC. During the meeting, they reviewed the ongoing preparations for the ‘Kazan Forum: Russia and the Islamic World’, scheduled to take place from 12 to 17 May, and discussed arrangements for the celebration of Kazan as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2026. The two sides also exchanged views on ways to strengthen cultural cooperation between the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Russian Federation, and explored opportunities to develop a partnership in this field in a manner that serves mutual interests.

Strengthening the strategic partnership between the OIC Department of Humanitarian Affairs and the UNDP 🤝🌐 His Excellency Amb. Dr Tariq Ali Bakheet, #OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs, received a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (#UNDP), led by Ms Nahid Hussein, at the General Secretariat headquarters in Jeddah. During the meeting, progress was reviewed on the joint Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation in humanitarian, social, and development fields. The meeting also explored opportunities to launch joint projects to support capacity building and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in Member States. The importance of an effective partnership in enhancing resilience and addressing shared humanitarian priorities was emphasized. The OIC continues its efforts to expand its network of international partnerships in a manner that serves the causes of the Islamic world and supports its stability and development. #SDGs

The meeting focused on current activities and exchanged views on ways to enhance cooperation between the OIC General Secretariat and UNDP, including joint efforts to support the implementation of various capacity-building and development projects for the benefit of the common Member States.

The Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan attends the Coordination Group meeting in Istanbul The Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for #Afghanistan, Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhit, participated in the Coordination Group meeting on Afghanistan held in #Istanbul from 28 to 30 April 2026. During the meeting, the Special Envoy emphasised that Afghanistan is going through a critical phase that requires sustained international attention and the adoption of practical and immediate measures to alleviate human suffering and stabilise the economic situation, calling for the continuity of #humanitarian aid in the areas of #food security and #healthcare, while stressing the need for coordinated easing of restrictions on banking channels and the provision of alternative livelihoods to support families and prevent economic deterioration. Ambassador Bakhit highlighted the pivotal role played by the organization's institutions and partners, foremost among them the Islamic Development Bank, the Islamic Organization for Food Security, and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, in supporting early recovery programs. He concluded by reaffirming the organization's commitment to continuing constructive dialogue and working closely with all international parties to promote stability and lay the foundations for #Afghanistan’s recovery.

OIC and Türkiye Discuss the Implementation of Intra-OIC Transport Cooperation The Assistant Secretary-General of #OIC for Economic Affairs, Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, received at the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah, a delegation of the Republic of #Türkiye headed by Mr. Burak Aykan, Director General of the General Directorate of European Union and Foreign Relations of the Ministry of #Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye and Representative of the Chairman of the Second OIC Conference of Transport Ministers. Mr. Burak was accompanied, among others, by H.E Amb. Cenk Uraz, the Permanent Representative of Türkiye to the OIC. The meeting focused on implementation of the decisions adopted by the Second OIC Conference of Transport Ministers held in Istanbul, Türkiye, on 11th-12th February 2026. The meeting also highlighted the OIC Conference of #Transport Ministers’ role in promoting intro-#OIC cooperation in the transport sector that is aimed at developing the transport sector and strengthening connectivity across OIC countries.
