The recovery mission was the result of a tragic swimming incident that took the life of Terry Lee Stillfield (18) of Polo, MO. He was a freshman at MidAmerica Nazarene University. Fifty-one years later, our hearts continue to go out to the family and friends of Bingham and Stillfield.

This morning firefighters presented a wreath in memory of Capt. Bill Bingham who died on this day in 1975 during an underwater recovery mission. The presentation took place near the cove where the fateful mission occurred. Bingham was a 13-year veteran of the department.

Truck 53 is a Pierce Mfg Arrox XT 100' mid-mount aerial. The change from a 'quint' to a 'truck,' at Station 3, helps improve our operational capabilities as our deployment model evolves to better serve Olathe.

This morning at Station 3 we “pushed in” Truck 53 which replaced Quint 53. The “push in” ceremony honors the tradition of when firefighters had to push the horse-drawn wagon into the station after it returned from a call. TY to our great community, who makes this all possible!!

Just after 1 pm, firefighters battled a house fire near E Harold St and N Van-Mar Dr. A neighbor noticed white smoke coming from the home’s roof vents and called 911. No injuries. Five people displaced. Damage is significant. Cause under investigation.
