The Ardtully papers include the biography of Richard J. T. Orpen (1788-1876). Orpen was a Dublin based solicitor and devoted much of his time tracing the history of the Orpen family & documenting historical events, including the effects of the Irish Famine 1845-52 across Ireland;

'The first aftermath of the Potato blight was in the winter of 1845-6, it culminated in 1846-7 & produced the Famine which decimated the potato eating population of Ireland...Famine brought on the Incumbered Estates Court which in a most commercial manner sold out the Estates.
