What does the FIDE World Teams Rapid title mean for a player like Ju Wenjun - someone who is the reigning Women's World Champion! We get to know in this interview with her in Hong Kong!

WGM Zoey Tang scored the biggest win of her career (so far!) at the National Open during Las Vegas International Chess Festival. Read Tang's annotations on the game as part of our recap on Chess Life Online. Photo courtesy of the organizers). new.uschess.org/news/las-vegas…

Correction: Zoey Tang's National Open doesn't count as a norm. Since she only faced 3 non-US players, she needed the event to have 20+ foreigners in every round to bypass the requirement. The event did have 20+ foreigners in the first 8 rounds, but only 18 in the last one. 🙄

Congrats to 18-year-old Zoey Tang on earning her final IM norm in the US National Open in Las Vegas! 🥳 Now she only needs to reach 2400 to earn the IM title! She gained +37 Elo in Las Vegas to finish the tournament at 2332! 👏👏 vegaschess.com/live/results/

Maili-Jade Ouellet was in trouble today on Board 1, but fought back to hold a draw! 🇨🇦 That keeps her in the lead (!), but not the sole lead! 😱 She has bad TBs, so realistically she needs to win both of the final two rounds to have a shot at the title! lichess.org/broadcast/tepl…

This is what the women's podium should look like at the World Rapid Team Championship! 🥇 🇨🇳 Ju Wenjun (2668 TPR) 🥈 ⬜️ Polina Shuvalova (2559 TPR) 🥉 🇰🇿 Bibisara Assaubayeva (2536 TPR) None of them will actually get board medals, but this is who deserves it!

Ju Wenjun was the only one with an impressive performance on the women's board! 🇨🇳 She finished with 4½/6 (!), good for a 2668 performance, over 100 Elo better than Bibisara in 2nd! 👏👏 Neither played enough games to get a board medal though! 🫠 s1.chess-results.com/tnr1435703.asp…

Polina Shuvalova is one of the only women playing on the "men's boards" in the World Rapid Teams! She has beaten GM Dai Changren (2539), and drawn with famous super-strong GMs Anish Giri (2764) and Jospem (2650)! s2.chess-results.com/tnr1435703.asp… 📷 Aleksei Gudovanyi

Note: I re-calculated the TPRs based on classical rating because all the rapid ratings are really messed up.

Alice Lee had a rough start to the US National Open, losing in Round 2 (!), but she was able to salvage her tournament and finish as the women's top scorer! After being Zoey, she also tied her for the best women's performance in the event at 2460! 📷: Las Vegas; @2700chess
