On World Health Day, we recognize that Ontario’s Fire Service is powered by people in many different roles—all of whom carry the weight of public safety. 🛡️ This year’s theme focuses on our working environment. For the dispatchers managing high-pressure calls, the educators working to prevent fires before they start and the crews on the front lines, a healthy workplace is essential. We acknowledge the mental and emotional dedication required in every role across the fire service. #FirePrevention #PublicSafety #WorldHealthDay #HealthAndSafety

Don't be a fool—fire safety is no joke. 🚫🔥 It may be April Fools' Day, but believing the wrong "advice" can lead to much more than embarrassment. ❌ Myth: Open windows to "let the smoke out." ✅ FACT: Keep windows closed to help limit oxygen to slow the spread of fire. ❌ Myth: You have time to grab your phone or laptop. ✅ FACT: You have under two minutes to escape once the alarm sounds. Modern homes burn faster than ever. Having a plan—and knowing the facts— can save lives. ⏱️🛡️ #FireSafety #AprilFools #OntarioSafe #SafetyFirst #HomeSafety #PlanYourEscape #AprilFoolsDay

🚨 Ice Water Rescue Training 🧊 We are wrapping up our NFPA 1006 Chapter 20 Ice/Water Rescue course! This challenging, hands‑on program is focused on operating safely and effectively in frozen and cold‑water environments. Throughout the course, our firefighters strengthened their skills in: ✓ Hazard recognition on ice and moving water ✓ Effective use of PPE and specialized rescue equipment ✓ Self‑rescue, victim‑rescue, and team‑based rescue techniques ✓ Communication, coordination, and decision‑making under pressure This week, the OFM is onsite conducting certification for the course. Our crews from Station 4-2 (Newmarket and 4-4 (Aurora) are being tested to meet provincial standards and are ready to respond when the community needs us most. Proud of our team! @Town_of_Aurora @TownofNewmarket @OAFTO @ONFireChiefs @ONFireMarshal

Carbon monoxide (CO) could accumulate unseen in your very own home leading to tragic consequences. Install CO alarms on every storey of your home, test them every month and have all fuel-burning appliances, chimneys, and vents inspected annually by a registered contractor. Protect what matters most! Learn more at Ontario.ca/CarbonMonoxide

Spring cleaning? Make fire safety part of the refresh! 🧹 1. Clear clutter inside and out. Obstacles can interfere with a safe home fire escape plan. 2. Clean dryer vents and hoses. Blocked vents can lead to carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. 3. Test smoke and CO alarms and replace them if they are more than 10 years old. Small checks can prevent big mistakes. #SpringCleaning

Happy birthday, Sparky!!! It’s hard to believe you’re 75 today – that’s 75 incredible years of spreading fire safety from coast-to-coast. Here’s a little throwback video of you breaking down fire safety and dance moves with Beepa at the OFM’s #SavedByTheBeep media launch last September.

Dangerous viral trends like the "Chrome Challenge" show why we need to move past traditional fire safety lectures. Modern fire safety is about tech fluency. 🔋📱 This March Break, we’re encouraging parents to spend 10 minutes on the #SpicyPillow audit to make sure batteries are not swollen. It’s a proactive hardware health check designed to teach teens about the safety of lithium-ion batteries By teaching these checks now, you’re building essential life skills before they head to a dorm or their first apartment. Level up their "adulting" habits with our free resources: 🏠✨ 👉 chargedforlife.ca/resources #FireSafety #TechFluency #Adulting101 #MarchBreak #OntarioParents #PublicSafety
