Yesterday, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport played host to Ontario Premier Doug Ford @fordnation , Minister @PBethlenfalvy and Minister @PrabSarkaria to make an important announcement regarding the modernization and expansion of the airport. Joined by our President and CEO, @RJSteenstra, the Premier and Ministers announced that the Province of Ontario will implement legislation to take over the City of Toronto’s place in the Tripartite Agreement and will declare the airport as a Special Economic Zone, reflecting a shared commitment to recognizing opportunity and advancing a strategy that will deliver lasting benefits for our city and region. As the owner and operator of @BBishopAirport, the Toronto Port Authority welcomes the opportunity to work collaboratively with the Province of Ontario to secure the airport’s future and achieve a vision for this airport that is anchored in expanding connectivity; responding to population growth and rising aviation demand; protecting access to northern and remote communities; strengthening tourism and trade; and, embracing modern aircraft that are cleaner, quieter, and more efficient. Over the last decade, the Toronto Port Authority, together with our airport partners, has made significant investments in innovation and critical infrastructure to ensure this airport continues to deliver on its promise. While we have made meaningful progress, there is more to be done to secure the long-term future of this airport and maximize its value for the region.
