Every community deserves to be able to practice their faith without fear of violence. Targeting Muslim religious institutions is something that cannot be tolerated. I stand with our Muslim community today and everyday, and I’m praying for the victims.

I am horrified by the deadly attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego, an apparent act of anti-Muslim violence. Islamophobia endangers Muslim communities across this country. We must confront it directly and stand together against the politics of fear and division. My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and the entire community grieving this devastating attack. The NYPD is increasing deployments to mosques across the city out of an abundance of caution. There are currently no known threats to NYC houses of worship.

Strong disagreement does not give the right to kill or harm others. Celebrating this is sickening and dangerous. We have lots of systems to fix -incl. our healthcare system- and this does *nada* to fix it.

Our community is in mourning over the news of a tragic fire that has claimed the life of a 1-year-old baby and critically injured two 6-year-olds at 2609 Bainbridge Avenue.
We are thankful for the heroic efforts and response of our first responders, the FDNY, NYC Emergency Management, the 52nd Precinct, Department of Buildings and the American Red Cross. Families have been provided hotel accommodations and essential support.
This tragedy is a painful reminder of the dangers of fires and the urgency for us to do more in education, outreach and prevention efforts to keep our residents and families safe. We remain in close contact with city officials on updates and keeping our families in prayers.
