I’ve received many emails from constituents on A Levels and GCSEs. It’s clear we need a fairer and more accountable system for marking grades. I’ve made representations to the Department for Education.

Please revert to CAG. Any other option is thousands of appeals and millions of pounds. I cannot imagine the misery this uncertainty is putting so many young people through.

NEW: Northern Ireland to scrap algorithm for GCSEs and give students the grade their teacher predicted for them. There is now even more pressure on UK govt to do a u-turn in England as this whole debacle becomes messier and messier.

So it looks like the Government ARE digging in and standing by their deeply flawed system. In that case, I will be taking legal advice this morning and have instructed leading Counsel. I expect to be writing to @ofqual later today to initiate action.
