Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake “island hopping” between the mangroves at Fort DeSoto. Quick Facts: • Venom: They are highly venomous, but generally not aggressive unless they feel cornered. • Diet: They often swim to islands to hunt for rabbits and large rodents. • Safety: If you encounter one in the water while boating or paddleboarding, just give it a wide berth. They can't easily strike while fully stretched out and swimming, but they are very capable of climbing onto low-hanging branches or even onto a boat deck if they feel they need a place to rest. 📷 Mark Burgner #Florida

Love to see it! Showers and thunderstorms have developed on the sea breeze and will ride that sea breeze inland. #Skytower

Storms aren't limited to the vapor directly overhead—they draw in (advect) massive amounts of moisture from elsewhere via wind, convergence, and large-scale flow. In the Texas event, moisture came primarily from the Gulf of Mexico, fueled by remnants of Tropical Storm Barry + humid air masses. Over hours, the system processed far more water than any single-column snapshot, and the precipitation was enhanced by passing over the hills of Texas.

New drought update this morning. The entire southeast is parched. Worst drought since 2001 in #Florida, which was also caused by a strong La Niña. During the drought of 2001, I-4 was frequently shut down. In one notable period in May 2001, authorities closed I-4 for several nights and early mornings between U.S. 27 and Disney World because smoke from nearby brush fires made driving impossible. I don't expect any notable improvement until our rainy season gets going in June....

You are wrong. Basic cloud seeding did not cause the Texas flood. Cloud seeding (e.g., introducing silver iodide as cloud condensation nuclei) only enhances precipitation from existing clouds/moisture—typically by up to ~20% in suitable conditions. It cannot generate storms, create clouds from nothing, or produce trillions of gallons. The CEO of Rainmaker confirmed his (cloud seeding) company's tiny operation (one 20-minute flight, 70g of silver iodide, far from the flood zone and suspended days earlier) had zero role.

Just spent almost 4 weeks traveling the state of Florida. Conclusion: Nice place to stay and visit 4-10 weeks out of the year. …Not a place you want to live 12 months of the year.
