Proof that Martin Ritt was a talented director? Hud (out today, 1963) for sure. Paul Newman’s antihero is one of his greatest rebels, while Patricia Neal and Melvyn Douglas add a hard emotional punch to this tale of amorality on the sweaty, dusty Texas Panhandle. A superb movie
