It started with a 13mm wrench and the smell of gearbox oil. Years later, in a bar in Nairobi, a conversation led Ralf Antweiler to an address scribbled down at 4 a.m. What he found was something no one expected to see again. The Opel Ascona 400 that carried Walter Röhrl to the 1982 World Rally Championship. The last rear-wheel-drive car to ever do it. Its parts were scattered across a Kenyan property. But it was all there. What followed was a six-year restoration built on restraint. Every scar preserved. Every detail respected. The only factory Lamborghini Miura Roadster ever built debuted in 1968 as a bold reimagining of the car that defined the supercar era. Rather than simply removing the roof, Bertone and Marcello Gandini reshaped the entire design, lowering the windshield, refining the bodywork, and exposing the mid-mounted V12 to create a striking open-air statement. Unlike other Miura variants, this Roadster was never intended for production. It remains a singular expression of Lamborghini’s design ambition, a one-of-one vision that pushed the limits of the platform and left a lasting imprint on the future of open-top supercars. The Petrolicious Post isn’t meant to sit untouched or sealed away as a collectible. It’s designed to be used, lived with, and worn in, something you can flip through, fold up, leave on a workbench, or pin to a garage wall. It belongs in the rhythm of everyday life, not behind glass. This is print without preciousness. A publication meant to be handled, shared, and even discarded, because another issue is always on the way. The value isn’t in preserving it, it’s in experiencing it. Find out why we’re doing it and why it matters: bit.ly/4rPBYrm Drive Tastefully® #Petrolicious #DriveTastefully #PetroliciousPost

The Porsche RS Spyder marked a dominant return to top-level prototype racing, developed in partnership with Penske to compete in the LMP2 category. Despite being in a lower class, it consistently outperformed expectations, securing multiple championships in the American Le Mans Series and even taking overall victories against more powerful LMP1 rivals. Its lightweight construction, high-revving V8, and relentless reliability made it one of the most effective endurance racers of its era. What made the RS Spyder truly remarkable was its ability to challenge and often defeat faster, higher-class competition through precision, efficiency, and execution. It became a symbol of Porsche’s racing philosophy, proving that intelligent engineering and balance could outweigh brute force, and leaving behind a legacy that would influence future programs like the 918 Spyder and 919 Hybrid. In 2000, BMW gave its agency an unusually simple brief for the E39 BMW M5: “Just tell people it’s fast.” Creative director Jan Jacobs and director Kim Geldenhuys turned that minimalist directive into a memorable commercial built around a clever illusion. The film follows a purpose-built land speed car blasting across the flats, only to reveal in the final moments that the real machine enabling the feat is an M5 fitted with the camera rig. The metaphor reframed the sports sedan as the true force behind the spectacle, reinforcing its reputation as the fastest and most exciting performance sedan of its era. The result became one of BMW’s most creative pieces of advertising from a period when the brand embraced bold storytelling, producing a commercial that still resonates decades later for its simplicity, ingenuity, and belief in the emotional power of great cars. Hans-Joachim Stuck’s storied racing career includes unforgettable moments at the legendary 12 Hours of Sebring, one of endurance racing’s most punishing circuits. Early success came behind the wheel of BMW race cars, before later victories with Porsche, including wins in the dominant Porsche 962 in 1986 and 1988. The unforgiving concrete surface and relentless pace of Sebring made it a proving ground where skill, courage, and endurance were constantly tested. Beyond the victories, Sebring also carries memories of the risks that defined an era of racing. The loss of close friends and competitors—including teammate Jo Gartner and fellow racer Bob Wollek—left lasting impressions on Stuck, underscoring the fragile balance between triumph and tragedy in endurance motorsport. For him, Sebring represents more than a race; it is a place where the emotional weight of racing history still lingers. Among the world-class Ferraris gathered on the lawns, one of the weekend’s most meaningful moments came while walking the event with Luigi Chinetti Jr., a quiet steward of one of the most important legacies in Ferrari history. The Cavallino Classic has long been a celebration of Ferrari heritage, craftsmanship, and competition. Having the opportunity to reflect on that history alongside the Chinetti family—whose role in Ferrari’s American racing story spans Le Mans victories, the founding of NART, and decades of influence—was a reminder that events like Cavallino are about far more than beautiful cars. They are about the people and stories that shaped the marque. A weekend in Palm Beach where Ferrari history continues to live, breathe, and be celebrated. At the Cavallino Classic, we walked the lawns with Luigi Chinetti Jr. — a quiet steward of one of racing’s most improbable legacies. His father, Luigi Chinetti, arrived in America with little more than conviction and left having altered the course of Ferrari history. A two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Alfa Romeo, he returned in 1949 to secure Ferrari’s first Le Mans victory — while quietly funding Enzo Ferrari’s racing ambitions through the sale of road and competition cars in the United States. Through the North American Racing Team, the Chinetti name became inseparable from American Ferrari competition, culminating in another Le Mans triumph in 1965. Coco carried the story forward himself, racing at Le Mans in 1971, and today preserves the family archives that shaped Ferrari’s American chapter.
