INDIA PHARMA was conceptualized in 2016 by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry in partnership with the Department of Pharmaceuticals as a strategic platform for industry–government dialogue. The 9th India Pharma Conference 2026 will be held on April 13–14 to promote drug research and innovation in India. Organized by the Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers in collaboration with FICCI, the conference will bring together experts, industry leaders, researchers, and startups. The Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals has also extended support by suspending the Quality Control Order for Morpholine, an important building block used in the manufacture of various life-saving drugs. Aluminium supply, required for pharmaceutical packaging, had faced constraints. Restoration of supply is underway, and the situation is expected to normalize within a week. It should be recognised that pharmaceuticals sector has a very strong value-chain linkage with the petroleum and petrochemicals sector, particularly in the supply of critical feedstocks and solvents required for the manufacture of drugs and syrups. In view of this interdependence, the department is working in close coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential inputs for pharma manufacturing. The pharmaceutical sector depends on petroleum and petrochemical feedstocks for drug manufacturing, and the government is coordinating with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals to ensure uninterrupted supply. Key inputs such as propylene, ammonia and methanol are being allocated on a pro rata basis, with fertiliser units supporting ammonia supply. Propylene remains critical for medicines like ibuprofen, with supplies supported by BPCL refineries Methanol supply remains a concern, with Assam Petrochemicals and GNFC stepping in as logistics are strengthened. The quality control order on morpholine has been relaxed to support production, while aluminium supply for packaging is being restored. Supplies of LPG and HSD for pharmaceutical processes are under close watch, with no current disruptions reported.
