Buckle up. The Reduction of Offensive Weapons Treaty; last major agreement maintaining nuclear parity between the US and Russia, expires on Thursday. It limited the number of nuclear warheads for each side to 1,550 units, and their delivery systems to 700 units. I am in contact with the crew of the tanker Virat, which was attacked by drones; the situation remains tense. No one has been evacuated — the entire crew is on board and awaiting the arrival of tugboats. They report the following damage: the steering gear compartment has been completely destroyed, there are through-holes in the hull of the steering compartment and in the aft ballast tanks. The cargo has not been affected, the crew is unharmed, but the vessel has lost propulsion. The drone strikes hit the stern section. At the moment, there is a strict ban on going out onto the deck and into the engine room. The crew was hired through Sovcomflot; all the sailors are Russian. The attack involved 4–5 drones: the first strike occurred at 17:50, then two more followed 15–20 minutes later, and roughly five hours after that, at 00:30, there was another impact. A boat from the Turkish Coast Guard approached the vessel, but left the area immediately after the second strike and did not return. I will report if there are updates. Terror war
