China reportedly paid just $60 million for the broadcasting rights to FOUR World Cups, after standing firm in negotiations with FIFA.
FIFA initially demanded $300 million for the 2026 FIFA World Cup alone, but CCTV pushed back, arguing that most matches would air between midnight and 6am Chinese time, while China itself hadn’t even qualified.
FIFA then dropped the price to $150 million, but China still refused. After further negotiations, FIFA eventually settled for $60 million.
The final deal reportedly covers:
• 2026 FIFA World Cup
• 2030 FIFA World Cup
• 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup
• 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup
Four World Cups for the price FIFA originally wanted to charge for just one.
Good job China 🤣

Ugandan President @KagutaMuseveni points out that Egypt repeatedly emphasizes its “historical rights” based on colonial-era Nile agreements, but the other Nile Basin countries are now asking a straightforward question: “What about us?”
He argues that the Nile cannot be treated as if only downstream states have rights while upstream countries are ignored or sidelined.
Instead, all basin nations should focus on shared prosperity: electricity, irrigation, drinking water, and economic cooperation, rather than an “us versus them” approach.
