Ramadan begins February 17, 2026. Observed by Muslims across Canada, it is a sacred month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community, ending with Eid al Fitr. The PWU reaffirms its commitment to inclusive, respectful workplaces that support religious and cultural observances.

For the month of February, the PWU’s Calendar Committee chose Emily Chen’s powerful piece titled “United Together"🤝 Thank you, Emily, for highlighting the diversity of the PWU Membership and demonstrating the strength that comes when we stand together. #PWUConnects

February is Black History Month. The PWU recognizes the contributions of the Black diaspora around the world and honours the vital role Black workers have played in the labour movement. We reaffirm our commitment to equity, solidarity, and inclusive workplaces for all.

On Dec. 6 we as recognize the National Day for the Remembrance & Action on Violence against Women. We honour the 14 women who lost their lives due to an act of misogyny & hate. We encourage our members to stay dedicated to the commitment of ending violence against women.

On November 11, Canadians pause to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice so we may live in freedom today.   We remember those who gave their lives & those who returned home forever changed. Their courage & sacrifice built the peace and safety we’re privileged to know. 🥀

Today is the 4th observance for the federal stat. holiday, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day is an important opportunity to pause, reflect, & honour the experiences of Indigenous Peoples, survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities. 🪶
