Today marks 90 years since the first flight of the Spitfire!  On 5th March 1936, Captain Joseph ‘Mutt’ Summers piloted the first Supermarine Spitfire prototype, K5054, from Eastleigh Aerodrome After just eight minutes in the air, he famously declared, “Don’t change a thing.”

This week, we celebrated this significant anniversary with colleagues at @LincolnshireCC, who officially launched the new and updated BBMF Visitor Centre and reaffirming the ongoing and long-standing working relationship between the Council, BBMF and RAF Coningsby.

Today marks 50 years since the BBMF moved to @RAFConingsby!   Taking off on the 1st March 1976 from RAF Coltishall, Lancaster PA474, Hurricane LF363 and Spitfires P7350, PS915 and PM631 took to the skies ready for their new beginning right here in “Bomber County”, Lincolnshire.

Before our Lancaster went to @Aircraft_ARC, our engineering team carried out a night run. It shows what many brave men would have done in pitch black airfields night after night, starting their aircraft up doing pre-flight checks on all systems before taking to the skies.

Back home where she belongs ❤️ Over the weekend, Sqn Ldr Andy Preece brought Spitfire AB910 back home to @RAFConingsby following the completion of her scheduled Major Maintenance programme which took place at Biggin Hill.

Thanks to East Midlands Universities Air Squadron for the invite to speak about @RAFBBMF and to attest 5 new Sqn members. Best of luck—enjoy! BBMF exists to inspire the next generation, whilst commemorating sacrifice, and promote today’s @RoyalAirForce. An excellent evening!

This week marks the anniversary of the maiden flight of the Avro Lancaster prototype. The Lancaster played a vital role during the Second World War, and today remains a powerful symbol of courage, sacrifice and remembrance.
