What do you think?
The first 2 photos represent the first version of the Recap feed. Back then, clicking a photo took you to a detailed view where you saw the whole recap.
In the next 2 photos, you're looking at the new version of the feed. No more clicking through to a detailed view, you can see the whole recap directly from the feed, and we also added an option for a full screen view.
We also added a completely new way of reacting: face reactions (smiley face). They are much more personal, which is the whole idea behind Recap.

@Recap_app Interesting facts, the way technology and behaviour changed over the last decade is not sustainable, and not build for generations very 30 years old and they want exacly the product you aim to build, great job!

Humanity takes over five billion photos a day and almost all of them are never seen or forgotten in seconds
AI is taking over. What's real? My friends? Where are they? Social connection is dead!
The problem is real, and the solution?
It has already begun, real crews and real nights, spreading city by city.
The goal: a billion users sharing a trillion memories with every angle of every one of them.
The last generation of social networks was about who follows you. The next one is about who was there.

Everyone I talk to about Recap says the same thing: “Why on earth did you decide to go into the hardest possible space to compete?”
To be honest, I didn’t even think about it when the idea came. I was so obsessed with the idea and the vision that I didn’t care what “space” it was. I just knew I wanted to build this, no matter what, because it was part of my life and part of me.
Now that I’m actually building it and people are using it, I’m at this weird combo of delusional and confident where I genuinely believe I can pull it off.

@MatejIvanetic We’re not here for one hype cycle, we’re here to be where your moments live on for the next decades.

Why BeReal Failed?
BeReal was a great idea. One photo a day when the notification hits, super simple, super quick and clean. But in the end, it was too different.
As a social network you’re not just fighting for attention. You’re fighting against deeply ingrained habits. The current social giants already set the standard. Open Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, they all ended up with the same core patterns: feeds, stories, short‑form video, DMs. There’s a reason every product converged there: it keeps people coming back multiple times per day.
BeReal was refreshing. Just your friends, no influencers, no endless feed. But after you saw those 10 posts, that was it. No rabbit hole, no discovery, no second or third session. You closed the app and waited for tomorrow.
That also meant people never built a real habit around it. It was a trend. And when the hype cooled off, usage went with it.
Was it a success story? For the founders, yes, they exited for 500m, but for the product and its long‑term impact, not really.
I use BeReal as a case study because my ambition is different.
I’m not building for a quick 500M valuation and a forgotten app in 5 years. I’m obsessed with building something that can live for decades, and that’s exactly why I’m designing Recap the way I am.

Which app do you think is the worst for society, and why?
I would say Instagram.
It perfected the art of the 'highlight reel' and, in doing so, created a culture of performance. It pressures us to compare our real, messy, behind-the-scenes lives with everyone else's single, perfect, manufactured moment. It's a system that incentivizes inauthenticity.
