@Chris_arnade Your biggest problem is,you walked...if you didnt walked maybe you would see how good public transport is,how you can get to some village in Germany with public transport ,no need to walk or for car

This is another example of why walking across an entire city, or a region passing through cities, gives you a better understanding of a place. When you walk across Milan, or from Dusseldorf to Bonn, you see that Europe isn't nearly as economically wealthy as the US. If you stick to tourist centers -- London, Paris, Milan -- you only see the wealthiest, and not the often dreary suburban apartment block bleah where most people live

“We’re making rail the faster way to travel across Europe” Ever heard of planes? Not only does shortening Rome to Paris from 10h50 to 8h45 make little impact when there’s a 2h plane. And not only are there larger wastes of time in my life the EU is better positioned to solve and at a cheaper price. But also: how much longer will we have to work to finance this?
European Commission@EU_Commission

We’re launching a bold plan to make high-speed rail the fastest, more sustainable way to travel across Europe by 2040. 🚆 It’s a concrete timeline to remove bottlenecks, unlock investment, and harmonise rail systems⬇️

@DellAnnaLuca Zaragoza recently surpass Seville to become Spain's fourth-largest city, something was unimaginable ,before high speed rail...and there is other cities as examples around Europe...

@Renton911 If instead the point is to connect cities that aren’t currently connected, then let’s spend on that, instead of making existing connections marginally faster.

@DellAnnaLuca MAD-BAR line bring growth on all economic areas, but what is more important ,not just to Madrid and Barcelona ,but to certain cities between, for example Zaragoza ,that had transform from "depressed city" in the 1990s into the major economic and logistics hub it has become

@DellAnnaLuca For moving people from point A to point B,cities build metros, tram systems and so on...EU wants to build high speed network...answer on second is dont see better way to achive a goal of moving as many people from point A to point B (including as many cities as possible)

@Renton911 Useful for what, exactly? And once you answer that, are there better ways to achieve those goals than this project?

@DellAnnaLuca beacues its very useful infrastructure ...and thats one of the rear things when tax payer money should be used...thats main reason why we pay tax ...and im not defending EU here, those bureaucrats...im just trying to give my point why high speed rail makes sense

@DellAnnaLuca opened in 2008,today 30+ trains a day,5,5 million passengers a year. Ryan air and Vueling reduced from 50 to 10 flights a day.not mentioning what it ment for Zaragoza and other cities on line. But yeah keep with "why built high speed rail?"

@DellAnnaLuca But there is no full high speed rail(train and rail are not the same) between Milan and Paris ,when finished in 2033 will reduce travel time from 7 to 4 hours. and you will have so many more trains per day.just chek what happpend between Madrid and Barcelona

@Renton911 If the idea is to reduce the amount of time people spend unproductively (where by “productively” I do not mean just work but also family time and free time), a lower-hanging fruit would be to reduce bureaucracy, wasteful spending, etc.

@Renton911 I never said that. I’m saying that long-range travelers tend to prefer the plane, and that’s unlikely to change with marginal improvements in long-range total time. Which doesn’t invalidate your point but is a separate one!
