@paimadhu @WitsUniversity @PLOSGPH Interrogating intersection between cancer and infections. Much remains to be learn t since the first descriptions of Epstein Barr virus and Burkitt lymphoma from Africa. Important to understand cancer in Africa, an under-recognised cause of death and limited treatment options

There is extensive community spread of Omicron in the US with cases reported in most states. Yet the travel bans against only southern African countries persist. Every day the bans remain further undermines this administration’s claim that it’s just ‘following the science’.
CDC@CDCgov

CDC estimates that #Omicron variant now represents about 3% of U.S. #COVID19 cases. Layered prevention strategies work to prevent COVID-19 spread: - Vaccines + boosters when eligible. - Masking in indoor public spaces. Schedule a vaccine or booster: vaccines.gov.

Wouldn’t have predicted a new form of vaccine hesitancy from government. We need as many as possible started on first dose. Don’t leave vaccines in freezer awaiting 2nd dose returns. Understand - not conventional. Extraordinary times = extraordinary measures . Monitor/learn.

"Get as many people at risk (especially for severe disease and mortality) their first dose as quickly as possible. Vaccines left in the vial will not prevent spread and won’t save lives." bit.ly/2L1VIcF

Huge line to get tested in Atlanta. Ill? Or needed for travel to states requiring testing? Perhaps not the best use of time and resources.
