The stunning Ashdown Forest famously inspired A.A. Milne's Winnie the Pooh. Being rooted in the surrounding landscape means our unique bunkerless routing relies on sprawling heather and natural undulations to provide a wonderful test of golf.

The last few months have seen essential winter work completed by Course Manager Dom and his team. Extensive silver birch and bracken removal has opened up our courses, getting vital light onto the surfaces to promote healthier turf.

Behind every great Head Greenkeeper is an even better dog. Dom handles the agronomy and the team, but Hadley is solely responsible for final quality control and morale support across the forest.

Steeped in 130 years of history, the clubhouse remains a sanctuary for the traditional game. Since our 1888 origins, it has offered panoramic views over the Old Course, providing the perfect setting to relax and reflect on a round.

A wintery view of the 8th on the Old Course. It's not long until the trees are vivid green again, and when the heather turns purple in August, it elevates itself to a whole new level of beauty.

The 7th on our Old is a masterclass in strategy. A ditch hugs the right side of the fairway, rewarding a bold line but punishing any error. But bail left and you're facing a longer approach uphill into the green. True risk and reward.

Two courses, two Top 100 rankings - and we're genuinely proud of it. From the challenging Old Course to the approachable West, we offer a world-class experience for golfers of all abilities, so there's something for everyone.

The 13th is a reminder that the land itself provides all the defence required. And typically, thanks to our 2-ball policy, it's reached in 2 hours or less.

The perfect escape from the winter elements. There’s no finer place to spend a cold afternoon than inside our clubhouse, enjoying its warmth and the camaraderie that follows a round on the Forest.

Known for its views over the Forest and the four surrounding counties, the 11th sits at the far end of the Old Course. It’s a moment in the round where the raw scale of the land comes together, presenting a challenge that has remained largely unchanged for more than a century.

Today marks 64 years since Jack Rowe's passing. Our Pro for 55 years, Rowe was responsible for the last significant changes to the Old Course in 1922, defining the layout we play today. To mark his retirement at age 76, Jack shot a 76 on the Old, matching his age exactly.

Even in winter, it's easy to see why our Old Course is recognised as a Top 100 course in Great Britain and Ireland. A testament to the natural landscape it sits within.

Known as “The Island,” this 40 yard long green is surrounded by a stream to the front and left, with a gully guarding the right and back. It’s a generous target for a hole of this length, but the ridge running through the middle has caused many a three putt bogey.

Today we celebrate Abe Mitchell’s 139th birthday. Born in 1897, he was often described as the greatest golfer never to win The Open. A member of Cantelupe at Royal Ashdown, Abe now lives on top of the Ryder Cup itself.

While our heather now lies dormant, we can’t wait to see it back in full bloom. It frames almost all of our fairways and greens, and it’s a feature that makes the course that little bit more visually intimidating.
