When Boney M. became one of the first Western groups to perform in the Soviet Union in 1978, the authorities banned the band from playing "Rasputin" at concerts because they considered it irreverent and sexually suggestive ("lover of the Russian queen," "Russia's greatest love machine"). Even so, she became a huge underground success there and even helped revive Rasputin's fame in the country. Bobby Farrell hardly sang, he just danced like a madman, who really sang was producer Frank Farian.
