Brad Marchand in 2018: “I was never the best kid on my team — anyone will tell you that. My buddies were better players. As we got older, they were getting all the attention from the junior teams. I’ll never forget, when we were 12 years old our coach gave this speech in the locker room before a game, and he said, ‘There’s thousands of kids like you in Canada. There’s thousands more all over the world. You know what the statistics say? The statistics say that only 0.01% of you will make it to the NHL.’ I just always remembered that stat, and I would think to myself, ‘Man, if I’m not even the best kid on my pee-wee team … there’s no chance. How could I ever get noticed?’ That same pee-wee season, something else happened that took my mindset a step further. We were playing against our rivals, Cole Harbor, in some important game, and they had this monster forward on their team who always killed us. During the game, the kid took a run at my brother, and he smoked him. For as much as we’d mess with one another at home, if you ever hurt my brother, it was like a red light went off inside me. I’d fight you. So we went out, and every time the kid touched the puck, one of us took a run. He got so pissed off that he took a slashing penalty right at the end of his shift, and we got a power play. We ended up scoring the game-winning goal with him in the box, and I had this realization like, ‘OK … if I have a 0.01% chance, this might be one way of getting people to notice me.’ I have done things that have stepped over that line, and I’ve paid the price for it.... There’s a lot of people out there in the hockey world who love to say, ‘Winning is everything. It’s the only thing.’ Do they really mean it? How far are they willing to go? Maybe it was my size, or just the way I was born, but I’ve always felt like you have to be willing to do anything — literally anything — in order to win. Even if that means being hated. Even if it means carrying around some baggage. If I played the game any other way, you absolutely would not know my name. You wouldn’t care enough to hate me, because I wouldn’t be in the NHL.” playerstribu.ne/Marchand

My family and I are disappearing for a few days. My account will be active but it will not be me behind the wheel. What we are about to release is mind boggling and will raise a lot of questions. All media requests need to go to my producer @SRS_jeremy

Thinking back to the time Johnny Hockey hit the 100 point plateau in the 2022 season and his parents were in attendance to see it. They hopped on Flames TV after and had a very heartwarming moment with Johnny. Family first is what we all saw in his time as a Flame. He put his family first in everything he did in his career. So this hits hard and closer to home. Truly devastating. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Gaudreau family on the loss of Johnny and his brother Matthew.

As I sit here and try to process the loss of Johnny and Matty Gaudreau it seems unimaginable what the entire family is going through right now. When I think about Johnny Hockey it dates back to the early 2000’s when I saw this kid who might’ve been 4 feet tall standing on a phonebook and tipping the scale at a lean 39 lbs at the age of 10. We were both 1993 born products and at the time Johnny was playing for the Boston Iceman at least during the summers, a AAA allstar that would travel from tourney to tourney. It was in Toronto at the Ronald McDonald tournament featuring basically all the best teams in North America for each age group when I first saw JG. Our Bauer Select team ended up beating the Boston Iceman in the first game of round robin play 7-6. The kid who was almost two feet shorter than some of our players had 5 tucks and 1 apple in the losing effort. I remember thinking at that age who the hell is this? That was the beginning of the legend. Johnny barely tied his skates, he wore them like slippers while stickhandling in a phone booth all over the sheet dancing around as a true magician and showmen. Hockey looked so fun playing the way he did with so much grace and creativity. He then went onto play for the Philly Little Flyers and Dubuque Fighting Saints where we saw each other again and again. I remember thinking is this going to be the level he can’t play at? He’s too small right? And every level he went up he was better all the way to the show. One of my favorites to watch with an infectious smile and pure joy for the game. I only got to hang out with him in passing whether it was a USA select camp or World Junior camp but from afar he just seemed like that dude. The dude you want around creating the vibe. I’m heartbroken for his family, friends and everyone that was touched by him. Selfishly, I wish I could’ve told him he was one of my favorite players to ever do it. Stay dangling up there boys 😥💔❤️ RIP Johnny & Matty
