My staff had the honor of recognizing Evan Johnson today during an aquarium installation that he and his team organized at the Villas at Saratoga. Evan runs a San Jose-based non-profit dedicated to combating depression, dementia, and anxiety in senior assisted living facilities.

The demand for critically needed affordable housing cannot be overstated. That is why I have introduced SB 750 to establish the CA Housing Finance and Credit Act (CAHFCA) which would provide financing solutions so that “shovel-ready” projects are able to move forward.

California has more than 40,000 affordable housing units that are considered “shovel-ready” but are currently stalled due to a lack of financing.

This in turn ensures the safe and timely completion of public infrastructure projects, promotes economic growth, and upholds fair wages that prevent workers from being exploited.

That is why I have introduced Senate Bill 33 this year which will help ensure private workers working on public development projects are paid fairly and on time. This includes projects like our roads, schools, parks, and utility systems.

As a champion of workers’ rights, I continue to advance legislation that protects workers from unsafe working conditions and exploitation.

Martin’s lived experience growing up autistic has served as the catalyst for his advocacy on behalf of the autism community.
