@moslamicbh Yet the population doesnt learn to produce or maintain said resources

@Noxtradm @PalmyrPar Most people cant understand a simple reductio like this and take it to be a genuine argument for rape. I used to think this means you shouldn't make these kinds of arguments, but now I see that it's a necessary filter mechanism.
English

@PalmyrPar A bit crude but I suspect the clowns wouldn't get it otherwise (They will probably still act as if they don't get it or try and somehow twist that it's actually not what's going on when this is spot on)
English

If my cock is hard and I’m right by you in a dark alley what do you honestly expect me to do???
eva@_glorianas
if you live right by the border of a country significantly richer than yours what do you honestly expect people to do???

@FakeTaxedBrass @liquid2ulu But it makes your balls bigger and heavier
English

@liquid2ulu It's certainly not as bad as any number of things, but we shouldn't fill our balls with microplastics to own the environmentalists either.

Drinking out of plastic appears to be entirely safe. What wouldn't be safe is drinking botulism allowed to grow due to the lack of plastic.
Massimo@Rainmaker1973
When you think you're drinking from a can, you're not drinking from a can. You're drinking from a plastic bag that's inside of a can.

@remarks When we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality, we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors... and all of you will be left to just study what we do.

@DaveAshelman This speaks to the (lack of) quality of grad school.
English

I did a whole research project on this in grad school. Companies reap over $300 BILLION a year in free labor from customers using self-checkouts. If they’re not going to pay customers, they can shave some price.

🚨 New York Democrats introduce bill requiring 10% discounts on all items at self-checkout.

If we imagine the trajectory of technological progress merely staying the same as it is now for the next decade, we can imagine an economy so productive that the average person, without saving, can live so comfortably that the common response to the question "Do you like your job?" will no longer be "well, you know, it's a job," with an unspoken 'I hate my life' sitting in the subtext of the conversation; to say nothing about the question itself.
Good, honest people deserve this future, but it will be stolen from them by politicians and the majority of the voting populace who want to regulate away the infrastructure required to build it, and/or are short sighted enough to seize and distribute the profits of the most profitable companies early on in the creation of this future, thus limiting the ceiling of what's possible.
They will see fully automated sectors of the economy producing high quality consumer goods with so little waste and at such efficiency that almost every good person can afford what today is considered a luxury lifestyle the average person can only dream of.
They will also see that poverty at the same time has not been eradicated, because the kind of extreme chronic poverty that exists today is largely the result of a lifetime of bad, mostly parasitic choices, and because they don't recognize this as true, they will see the growing wealth gap as increasingly intolerable. In their mind the producers of this future will be the most evil people on the planet, and any rational person trying to defend the production of this future will be met with the same ire as the people actually building it.
The kind of destruction you see aimed at Teslas and Flok cameras will become more violent, more frequent, and pointed at larger and smaller targets. The individuals running the most productive companies on earth will need better security than the president of the United States, and their most outspoken supporters will deal with life threatening harassment on a daily basis.
What I'm describing doesn't have to materialize. We could have the good ending, abundance and freedom for all who deserve it, but we'll have to crush every parasitic influence in society and drive them as far away from power as possible to achieve it.
English

@straykidmenace @susylicious2023 You could say the same about slaveowners
English

@susylicious2023 Worried bout all the family members she lost due to her mother…well bitch now you ain’t got her either yet someone kept you safe enough to get to 23. Ain’t that some shit

The root problem is proprietary (information) code and weights that make it prohibitively expensive to clone what exists, thus making it possible for one company to be the sole arbiter of the fate of any given model. We shouldn't seek to disallow the companies from making changes, but to make the information readily available.
English

Do you all think it’s right for AI companies to keep doing this to the people who actually use their AIs, suddenly changing the AI’s prompt with the next update, or sharply raising the guardrails out of nowhere? We are the ones who take the direct damage and impact from that, so who is supposed to compensate us?

This is a good idea.
You can still buy a controller with buttons that eventually stick and with less customizability.
If done right you can use vibrations to mimic the feel of a physical button, but you can have as many or few as you need for the game you're playing.
Ultimately a low friction wearable that turns your actual body or brainwaves into the controller is probably the best design, but this is a step up from joystick and button.
Analog sticks do feel nice though, and would be challenging to replicate reliably on a flat surface (maybe impossible)
English

Imagine if the Wright Bros. (and others) weren't allowed to attempt to build their flying machines, or if regulatory costs made it so prohibitively expensive that the effect was the same as an outright ban.
It isn't hard to imagine safety concerns trumping liberty. Don't let it happen today.
