@DdcomMdv also says after Rilwan’s disappearance, the govt of then-President Abdulla Yameen let the suspects flee the Maldives. At least 6 people involved in the murder left to fight in Syria and are said to have died there. The last of them - Mohamed Munaz - left in 2017!

Yameen Rasheed, blogger and human rights defender, was murdered on 23 April 2017. He sustained more than 38 stab wounds to his body. He was targeted for his views on social, economic and political issues in the Maldives, especially on violent extremism. 1/2
