Vice-President Kashim Shettima has visited the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) to commiserate with victims of Monday night multiple bomb explosions in the Borno state capital.
The police said 23 persons were killed and 108 others injured when explosions went off at three different locations in the city during the breaking of fast by Muslims.
In furtherance of President Bola Tinubu’s directive, Shettima on Wednesday visited the survivors of the bombings at UMTH where they have been receiving treatments.
Stanley Nwocha, presidential spokesperson in a post shared on X, said Shettima mourned those who lost their lives, sympathised with the injured and expressed the federal government’s solidarity with the people of the state during this challenging time.

Neither of them were elected Senators. Under the 1960 Constitution, the Senate, was a ‘ceremonial’ 48 member chamber, 12 from each of the then three regions, nominated by regional Premiers.
The ‘real thing’ in terms of real powers was the House of Representatives in that era.

INSIDE STORY: How pilot, cabin crew saved 80 passengers in Arik Air mishap
On February 11, about 80 passengers reportedly survived what could have been a deadly plane crash on Nigerian soil, following an engine fault on an aircraft operated by Arik Air.
The aviation firm said its Boeing 737-700 aircraft operating a Lagos-Port Harcourt flight on Wednesday diverted to Benin airport after the crew “heard a loud bang from the left engine”.
The flight W3-740, with registration number 5N-MJF, was said to be descending into Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, when the incident occurred.
The trip began like any other: a smooth climb, normal cabin sounds, and the quiet comfort of believing everything was routine, a source who was on the flight told TheCable.
“We were ascending steadily, and for a while, nothing felt out of place. Until it happened,” the source said.
What followed, she said, was a sudden, terrifying bang and the aircraft instantly began to “vibrate violently, threateningly”.
“I turned toward the window, and what I saw froze me. Panic erupted,” the source said.
“The cabin filled with confusion, voices trembling, and cries of “Jesus!” echoing everywhere. In that moment, fear became a physical thing. Heavy and suffocating.

SIMON KOLAWOLE: "I totally support the proposed mandatory e-transmission, but are we prepared for eventualities, such as tech failures? If the system breaks down, what is the contingency plan? Anyone who is familiar with technology knows that outages are predictable. Why do we have more than one mobile phone? Mighty tech companies such as Amazon, Meta and X suffer glitches on occasion, and big companies like Yahoo and Facebook have been successfully hacked in recent years. It is one thing to campaign for what we think provides a “perfect solution” to our problems, but it is another not to suggest back-up or fail-safe options. This dogma of “my way or the highway” may come back to bite us."

.@elrufai: How we wiretapped Ribadu’s phone — he ordered for my arrest
Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, says he accessed an intercepted phone conversation involving Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser (NSA).
In an interview on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme, el-Rufai said “someone tapped” @NuhuRibadu’s phone, allowing him to listen to the NSA allegedly instructing security operatives to effect his arrest.
He acknowledged the act’s illegality, adding that the government does it all the time.
“He made the call because we listened to their calls. The government thinks they are the only ones that listen to calls but we also have our ways. He made the call and gave the order,” he said.
