I've been surprised by how much negativity there is surrounding Derrick James. I thought he did a terrific jab in improving Jermell Charlo. Won three welterweight belts with Spence. Did a nice job with Frank Martin. Won my Trainer of the Year twice.

Agree game shouldn't be cookie cutter that takes away from it That being said as effective as his style is there are limitations esp when his guy can't physically impose himself on his opponent

What I like about James in particular is that he is a believer in in-the-pocket fighting. He's not a hit and don't get hit guy. He wants you to master the close and midranges. It's important for the sport to have variety to show that there are several ways to build elite fighters

@snboxing I'm not saying they werent good but the media absolutely loved Loma and chocalatito so much more than fans did for some odd reason it was so weird they were good but no where near as special as sportswriters wanted us to believe

I still don’t understand the gap in public perception vs. actual accomplishments regarding Lomachenko, especially when his fellow countryman Usyk has proven to be a much better pro boxer. It’s a reminder that intangibles are absolutely crucial at the highest level of boxing.

@snboxing I think he took on too many fighters. He didn’t have the bandwidth for all of them. I think some of those guys got short changed at the end.

@snboxing These days having ppl hate on u is a sign of success. Its hard to argue someone w/James' resume isn't a great trainer. No one bats 1000. No one doesn't have bad nights in this business. But when you've done as much positive as James has in boxing no one reasonable can argue w/it.

@ChrisStraitBox @AlBernstein There are always stories. I had the Haney fight a draw. Maybe if Loma didn’t lose the 12th… also Loma wasn’t so hurt against Teo to dominate 8 through 11. So I think much of that talk is overblown. He wasn’t hurt through must if the end of the fight, but only in beginning?

@LetsFxnesse2x @howboxingworkss Doesn’t diminish what he did accomplish. Undisputed champion. That’s elite level stuff and no excuse making takes that away. And if Charlo’s heart isn’t in it, that’s not a Derrick James problem.

@NajiChill He faded down the stretch. One judge had it even, which I didn’t think was right. But Keyshawn showed a lack of focus in that fight and Albright isn’t a guy who is easily discouraged.

Keyshawn Davis is in a weird position with this fight. Bcuz he already beat Nahir Albright, he needs a stoppage to move his career forward. Just getting the win isn’t enough in this case. Def tuning in tho
