I've always said I want to talk about my characters more.. so I'm just going to go for it!
This is Cedar Beaumont, a sham apothecary. For his misdeeds and fraudulent remedies he was cursed by a sorcerer to slowly turn into a rabbit.

Progress is different for every person. Some might improve in weeks, others in years. Tutorials and art studies can help too!
Sometimes we're hard on ourselves and don't realize how far we've come. And anyways, beauty is subjective. It's not a matter of "being better or worse", most important thing is enjoying the creation process. ☺️

@Sshirokuro I've been trying to get better at art for 25 years, and it's only got me so far. But preach time and effort like everyone else.

Why do artists do a color test/greyscale coloring before the final art? 🎨
These methods help you envision the final piece and avoid potential mistakes ‼️
Whenever I feel insecure about the color palette, I do a concept art and test colors on different layers, adjusting them until I'm confident with the combination. You can keep playing around until you find the suitable palette and vibes. That saves up time during the process!
Whenever I feel insecure about rendering, I do a quick sketch and color with grey scale to see a better placement of shades and lights, only using 3 layers on normal (base), multiply (shade) and add (light) mode.
The shapes don't need to be perfect nor clean!! You can simply use the lasso tool and fill.
You've noticed that many professional artists use grey scale or values, right?
As a mostly self-taught artist, I wanted to explain what I do without much theory, using my latest art as an example.
This method has helped me a lot with composition, coloring and rendering!

@TheBigBeefstew Calling art talent only would be biased. I think that practice and effort matter the most, as someone who has been drawing for a long time! 💖
