Of all the things I’ve said in defense of unpopular Catholic moral teachings over the years – on abortion, sexuality, social doctrine, or what have you – I don’t think anything has generated more undiluted hostility and unreasoning, spittle-flecked rage than what I’ve said against intentionally killing civilians and obliterating civilian infrastructure during wartime. It is truly extraordinary. I never would have guessed it. Make of it what you will.

@StantonWasRight @dianemontagna I believe Tucho has given the ultimatum today and warned of it when he met with Fr. Pagliarani. The Pope refuses to meet or speak to Fr. Pagliarani. Numerous written requests for an audience were ignored, left unanswered. This is my understanding from what I've read or interviews

JUST IN: Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández, prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, today issues official statement reiterating that the SSPX’s decision to proceed with episcopal consecrations on July 1 will constitute “a schismatic act” that “entails the excommunication established by the law of the Church.” FULL STATEMENT: With regard to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X, what has already been communicated is hereby reaffirmed. The episcopal ordinations announced by the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X do not have the requisite pontifical mandate. This act will constitute “a schismatic act” (John Paul II, Ecclesia Dei, no. 3), and “formal adherence to the schism constitutes a grave offense against God and entails the excommunication established by the law of the Church” (ibid., 5c; cf. Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts, Explanatory Note, 24 August 1996). The Holy Father continues in his prayers to ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten the leaders of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X, so that they may retrace their steps regarding the most grave decision they have taken. From the Vatican, 13 May 2026 Original statement in Italian here: press.vatican.va/content/salast…

@Megatron_ron @Eyalo365 I scrolled back To see the top of the post, I thought for a second that it was the Babylon Bee. If this post is accurate, then this pope is a world class fool. To my Catholic friends and family: THIS is not apostolic succession. This is merely a fool picked out of the crowd.

This appointment comes at this hour when the Supreme Court, with a majority of Catholic justices, chose to gut the Voting Rights Act of 1965, arguably one of the most consequential legacies of MLK being thrown to the wayside. Just shameful and especially coming from Catholic justices. Their blindness towards racism in our Republic and handing a victory to Donald Trump void of the true historical context of African Americans struggle to vote and be represented across our nation is pathetic and so contrary to the Gospel they were taught but sadly do not always practice, where all brothers and sisters are loved - which could not be any more constitutional. Prelates in our Church must lead the resurrection of DEI, for diversity is our strength both as a Church and nation. Pope Leo is sending a very strong message to Trump and his enablers with this move right in Washington. Amen 🙏

NEW: Pope Leo XIV appoints the youngest bishop in the United States. Robert Boxie III, 46, is a new auxiliary bishop of Washington. Boxie has been outspoken against the White House’s attacks against racial diversity. “It’s really frustrating — especially this moment that we’re living in. The attacks on ‘DEI’ — I don’t even know what that means anymore. It’s a term that’s been hijacked. It means a lot of things to a lot of different people.” “I think at its core, it’s what America is all about. We are a diverse nation with people from all over the world. Diversity is a good thing. Diversity is of God.” “And the fact that it’s been turned into something negative — or something that should be avoided or not talked about — just flies in the face of who we are as Americans.” “So much of our history has been exclusive, especially when it comes to race. And it’s just un-American; it’s un-Christian; it’s anti-Catholic.”

A fascinating observation by Elise Ann Allen about Pope Leo: "Does the Pope reflect at all on what kind of influence he can have in an era where faith and the institutionalized church, especially the Catholic Church, are really in an era of decline? That's a perception of the West. The church is not in an era of decline, it's in an era of rapid growth in the Global South. I think by 2050 two-thirds of the world's Catholics will be in the Global South. The kinds of issues that Francis brought up and that Leo is bringing up now are what's affecting the majority of the church right now. And Leo, as a missionary, would like to serve as a bridge between these two worlds, where the faith is in decline and where it's growing." time.com/article/2026/0…

Enough is enough! It's time for Christians around the world to cease funding the persecution and genocide perpetrated by the Secular 1948 State of Israel. These are not "isolated incidents" nor is this Country America's "greatest ally." SecDef Pete Hegseth admits what 18 US intelligence agencies, and the Intl Atomic Energy Agency, concluded: Iran was not developing a nuclear weapon and was not an imminent threat. One of the prongs of Just War criteria is that the threat must be grave, lasting and certain — not speculative, not probable, not likely, but certain. From April 30 Senate testimony:

Dame Sarah came away from her meeting with the Holy Father believing they were “two pastors meeting each other.” This is wrong. The Pope is a pastor. I am sure Mullally is a great mother/wife, but she can never be a pastor. Vatican II ecumenism is cruel. x.com/FreeIrishman7/…

At what point should these dialogues be ended? When the Archbishop of Canterbury no longer has the remote possibility of being a validly ordained priest, surely, there is little point in conversing anymore? Pope Leo XIII declared Anglican orders "absolutely null and utterly void" in his papal bull, Apostolicae curae, due to a "defect of form and intention." Women's orders reinforce and compound that problem. The situation is worse than it was in 1896.
Catholic Sat@CatholicSat

Pope Leo XIV to the ‘archbishop’ of Canterbury: “When archbishop Michael Ramsey and Saint Pope Paul VI announced the first theological dialogue between Anglicans and Catholics [in 1966], they spoke of seeking the “restoration of complete communion in faith and sacramental life”. Certainly this ecumenical journey has been complex. While much progress has been made on some historically divisive issues, new problems have arisen in recent decades, rendering the pathway to full communion more difficult to discern.  I know that the Anglican Communion is also facing many of these same questions at this time. Nevertheless, we must not allow these continuing challenges to prevent us from using every possible opportunity to proclaim Christ to the world together.  As my beloved predecessor, Pope Francis, said to the Primates of the Anglican Communion in 2024, “it would be a scandal if, due to our divisions, we did not fulfil our common vocation to make Christ known.”  For my part, I add that it would also be a scandal if we did not continue to work towards overcoming our differences, no matter how intractable they may appear.”

@dianemontagna Perfect example of how the modern trend of wanting to appear nice & "welcoming" at all costs runs into direct conflict with the need, for the good of souls, for doctrinal firmness & clarity, which ultimately is an expression of true charity.

JUST IN: Vatican releases photos of Pope Leo XIV’s meeting today with Sarah Mullally. In his address to her, the Pope noted that: “While much progress has been made on some historically divisive issues, new problems have arisen in recent decades, rendering the pathway to full communion more difficult to discern.” Of course, chief among these new problems is the fact that a woman dressed in liturgical attire is now being passed off — and celebrated by the Vatican and even by the Pope — as someone who seemingly has valid Orders when she doesn’t — first because she’s a woman and second because she’s an Anglican. So much so that, during her visit to St. Peter’s Basilica on Sunday, a Vatican official (Archbishop Flavio Pace, Secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity) bowed before her in the Clementine Chapel — one of the most sacred places in the Vatican grottoes, located just next to the tomb of St. Peter — and made the Sign of the Cross as though receiving a real blessing from her. Absolutely absurd. More photos and full address here: vatican.va/content/leo-xi…

Pope Leo rejects blessings for same-sex couples. He was asked to respond to German Cardinal Reinhardt Marx's formal approval of same-sex blessings in his archdiocese: "The Holy See has already spoken to the German bishops. The Holy See has made it clear that we do not agree with the formalized blessing of couples, in this case, homosexual couples, as you asked, or couples in irregular situations, beyond what was specifically, if you will, allowed for by Pope Francis in saying all people receive blessings. When a priest gives a blessing at the end of Mass, when the Pope gives a blessing at the end of a large celebration like the one we had today, they are blessings for all people." He appears to be walking back Fiducia Supplicans, the controversial document published under Pope Francis that greenlit the invocation of God's help on same-sex couples.

An excellent article by @FeserEdward on the need to have moral certainty before going to war. According to Catholic tradition, the evils that arise out of war are so great that we must set an incredibly high bar before engaging in it. firstthings.com/does-just-war-…
