Team members from Sumitomo Biorational Company recently participated in the 28th annual conference of the Great Lakes Chapter of the Chinese American Chemical Society (GLCACS). The event brought together professionals and graduate students around the theme “Building a fulfilling career in a world of accelerating changes.” Salman Mir, AgroSolutions Division President, opened the conference by highlighting Sumitomo Biorational’s role as a global leader in biorational solutions. Mark Zhen, Sr. Manager of Formulation Research, later followed and shared his career journey and insights on innovation in formulation science. Recently, a Japanese maple was planted in the gardens at our global headquarters to mark a meaningful new beginning for Sumitomo Biorational Company and to signify our important partnership with Sumitomo Chemical Company. Happy Earth Day! Recently, our team rolled up their sleeves to make an impact in their community. A group of volunteers headed to Ryerson Conservation Area in Lake County, Illinois, near our global headquarters, to help remove invasive buckthorn and burning bush. Together, they cleared a significant section of land, opening space for native plants and healthier ecosystems to thrive. Along the way, they even caught glimpses of local wildlife, which provide a reminder of why these efforts matter. What if waste wasn’t waste? We partnered with Ajinomoto and @IowaStateU through the Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) Technology Assistance Program to find out. The goal was to test whether industrial byproducts from manufacturing could serve as alternatives to synthetic fertilizers. Field trials conducted over multiple seasons showed that these byproducts can supply crop nitrogen, improve soil health, and maintain or even enhance crop performance. What was once considered waste can now be a sustainable, valuable input for farmers, creating environmental, economic, and agricultural benefits. This collaboration demonstrates how science can support sustainable agriculture, and how working together can make agriculture more sustainable for generations to come. #agribusiness #agriculture #Sustainability
