@magnateonly One second, which government are you talking about? This seems like a modern airport to me.

Spent 2 weeks in Angola and I just want to show you their airport. Incase you’re not angry enough at the government. See the international airport of Angola. I’ll spare you the pain of posting the pictures from inside

Uganda is officially moving forward with its massive $4 billion oil refinery, a project set to reshape the country’s entire energy future. The refinery will slash Uganda’s dependence on imported fuel while tapping into its 6.5 billion barrels of oil in place with up to 2.2 billion barrels recoverable. Once completed, it will: - Process 60,000 barrels per day - Power local industries - Boost national revenue - Support new pipelines, storage hubs, and water infrastructure For the first time ever, Uganda is on track to flip from importing fuel to exporting refined petroleum. Production is projected to kick off around mid-2026.

@afneil Producing your own oil and gas certainly helps with energy security if you are - Saudi Arabia Russia China Iran Venezuela Kuwait Norway Qatar Nigeria Angola Can you guess why the UK is not on that list? I'll even give you a picture clue.

So producing your own oil and gas does nothing for energy security. I see. If that’s true of Britain it must be true of other fossil fuel producers too. But of course it isn’t.
JB@DizzyJB

@afneil Benefits are tax revenue and jobs only. This will do nothing to improve energy security or bring bills down, when we remain dependent on the global market. Only investment in renewables will alleviate that dependency long term.

We’re relying more on LNG to set the price because we’re allowing domestic supplies to decline and depend more on imported LNG supplies. A matter of policy. A bizarre policy driven by net zero zealots. Even in a mature field like the North Sea there is still a lot more gas to get out. Ask the Norwegians. Increase that supply and UK NBP hub prices will come down. Tax revenues will rise. Balance of payments will improve. Sterling will strengthen. And more jobs will be saved/added. Simples.
PAD@68PAD

@afneil The fact remains , we rely on imported gas , traded on the international market and bought at a rate we have no control over

@ejwwest This is why I rarely talk about this topic. Because I get completely ignorant patronising tools like you trying to tell me things which aren’t remotely true. It’s honestly astonishing.

As someone with many years involvement in the physical movement of natural gas around Europe from field to end customer the ignorance in this post physically pains me.
Zoe Gardner@ZoeJardiniere

It is blowing my mind how many people don’t seem able to grasp that oil & gas in the North Sea is not “ours” but was sold off to private companies who will trade it on the international market like any other fuel. We don’t get any kind of privileged access to this fuel.

@FmrRepMTG No matter your opinion at the start of this war, if you're America first, then you need to think very carefully about how America it. If Iran controls the Straits of Tiran, America's fuel expenses go up, and its international standing takes a massive hit.
