Pete Buttigieg says higher taxes would help America build fast trains. Has he seen California’s high-speed rail? "If we had a more reasonable rate of taxation on capital gains and corporate income, and made it harder to pass along inherited wealth..." "We’d be out of this doom loop we’re in saying... We can’t possibly do something like fast trains here in the United States. Of course we can. This is the wealthiest economy in the world." "If we aren't collecting a fair level of taxes, then of course we're going to come up short when we're trying to fund those things." California started its high-speed rail 18 years ago. Original cost: $33 billion. Current estimate: $230 billion. They've already spent $15 billion. They've built 0 miles of operational high-speed rail. Low taxes isn't why America can't build fast trains.

I’M IN TEARS I’M SCREAMING The Pennsylvania Department of State just conducted one of its biggest purges ever. Democrats lost TENS of thousands of voters. It’s happening — it’s actually happening. Our work to clean the voter rolls is actually working. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. This is a massive, earth-shattering earthquake of epic proportions. Wait until you see how close we are to flipping Pennsylvania 🟦🔜🟥! My heart sings a tune loudly for all to hear.

@TheEconomist @elonmusk ELon Musl method entails throwing a ton of BS, and eventually 1 in 1000 things comes true. This 1 in 1000 things comes true makes him a "visionary" at the eyes of the gullible. In fact, he is one the greatest, most talented conmen who ever lived. Maybe the greatest.

FSD Supervised in Aus/NZ and Europe and other non-US countries has had no significant incidents yet, in other words the safety factor is increasing. I think it is statistically at least 10x less likely to crash in Aus/NZ than human drivers SO FAR. It’s amazing that no-one outside our Tesla bubble knows this!

60 million people have died in car crashes since the invention of the automobile For context, this is equivalent to the entire population of Italy getting wiped out. For the first time, we have the technology to put an end to this.

The 2nd Trump Administration has reduced the size of government by over 280,000 employees This is only the tip of the iceberg of what the government needs to cut in order to fit into the Constitutional mandate and no more It is a good start

Normally, you’d have to spend six figures to own a car with doors that open like this. Tesla plans to bring that same futuristic, luxury experience to the Cybercab for like $30,000. This car is about to make luxury mobility accessible to everyone. I can’t wait to own 25 of these and show the world how profitable it is to own a fleet, when Tesla & Elon give me the green light

@elonmusk @Rothmus We grew up hearing the rationale for war was population management because the world was already teeming with too many. It meant they conscripted the best men in society to be risked.

In stark contrast to what Deng did in China, up to a million North Koreans starved to death in the 1990s because their government had already banned private farming and lived off Soviet handouts. The Soviet collapse in 1991 cut the free fuel and fertilizer that had kept the whole system afloat for decades, and energy imports dropped 75% almost overnight. North Korea had fully collectivized its farms since the 1950s, so farmers held almost no private plots and had zero reason to grow more than the state’s quota. When the free inputs vanished the system had no slack left. Floods in 1995 finished off what crops remained, and the Public Distribution System that nearly the entire population relied on for food simply collapsed in large parts of the country. City rations fell from 585 grams of grain a day in 1987 to 30 grams by 1997. The regime called it the “Arduous March”. And even after Kim Il Sung died the year the famine began, his son kept the exact same centrally planned system running for the next 17 years while hundreds of thousands starved. And that is the body count of full collectivization under communism.
Rothmus 🏴@Rothmus

800 million people were lifted out of extreme poverty in China thanks to a little bit of capitalism. Central planning doesn’t work. At least Deng Xiaoping saw Mao’s catastrophic blunders and understood that. Which is why when he took power, he ripped out the collectivized economy by the roots. >let farmers work their own plots and sell what they grew instead of farming for the state (food production soared almost overnight) >carved out Special Economic Zones like Shenzhen where foreign capital could operate under different rules than the rest of communist China > poverty crashed from nearly 90% in 1981 to under 4% by 2016 On his Southern Tour in 1992, Deng told CCP officials “to get rich is glorious.” He was right btw. And it is best done through private property and free markets.

@NFL Mike McCarthy and Nick Sirianni are similar in the sense that their career record as head coach and Super Bowl win on their resume makes them look better than they actually are. With McCarthy, it was Rodgers bailing him out and with Sirianni, it's Roseman giving him great rosters
