Over the past 24 hours, Tahoe National Forest has received 1,241 lighting strikes. Forest Service firefighters have responded to/are currently responding to several suspected lighting-cause wildfires and smoke checks.

Lightning strikes may smolder for several days before smoke becomes visible. Tahoe National Forest firefighters continue to monitor conditions and stand ready to respond to any new starts.

Since the weekend, there have been approximately 1,374 lightning strikes recorded on the Tahoe National Forest. Fire resources have now responded to 14 lighting-caused wildfire starts on the forest since Sunday, Aug. 24.

Over the past 48 hours, there have been 344 lightning strikes recorded on the Tahoe National Forest. Additional starts may be discovered in the coming days.

Tahoe National Forest firefighters continue to respond to lightning fires following thunderstorm activity across the forest. Since yesterday, Aug. 24, resources have responded to 8 lighting-caused fires, successfully holding all incidents to approximately 2-acres or less.

1115: The fire continues to hold at approximately 1/4 to 1/2 acre. Tahoe Hotshots have gained access. Aerial resources remain committed. This will be the final update unless conditions change.

0830: Incident reported at 1/4-1/2 acre near Steamboat Mountain. Tahoe National Forest's Type 1 helicopter is working its way to the incident from Truckee. A Type 2 helicopter will work to establish a landing zone and fly ground crews to the remote location.
