It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of 15-year-old Academy player, Amelia Aplin.
Amelia collapsed during a Girls’ Academy game against Fulham at the Club’s Training Centre in Horspath yesterday afternoon.
The thoughts and sincere condolences from everyone at Oxford United are with Amelia’s family, friends, teammates and coaches.
We would like to place on record our appreciation for the efforts of the medical staff at both Oxford United and Fulham Football Club, along with the emergency services.
The Club will offer support to Amelia’s family, players, coaches and staff impacted by this tragic event.
We would ask that the family’s privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time.

🏴 I am convinced Stephen Mfuni will be a senior England international in 12-18 months.
He is in my opinion the best English CB prospect around.
Impressively he can also play as an LB.
Been really impressed by the ease with which he has settled on loan at Watford.
What stands out to me about him immediately are his physical traits.
He is an ectomorph with long legs perfect for defensive situations. He’s also quick and very difficult to beat in one vs one situations and defensive duels.
Secondly, what also stands out is how calm and composed he is on the ball. He carries with confidence, makes smart vertical passes. He can go long, he can go short, make line breaking-passes that are perfectly weighed.
He’s not afraid to take risks which is admirable for a player who is barely 18 stepping into adult football for the first time. Sometimes there’s a mistake in his game, but he tends to make up for it by winning the ball back.
Defensively he reads the game superbly.
Good acceleration, and anticipation. He defends the channels really well, quick to make recovery runs.
Decent in the air although he has found it a bit more difficult to assert his dominance in the Championship so far.
Overall, he’s a proper modern day defender. Someone who can go very far.
Interestingly his brother is regarded as equally talented and he plays for Liverpool’s academy at the moment captained the team that won the Virgil Legacy tournament in the summer. One to keep an eye on.
