💔15-year-old Harvey who plays for Woolavington FC in Somerset is facing stage 4 brain cancer. The club have retired his number as he will now no longer be able to play again. For those who understand what stage 4 brain cancer means, you’ll know that time is precious and the family are literally taking each day as a blessing, but time is running out. Right now, our focus is making sure that every single day he has left is filled with as much love, kindness, and connection as possible. Harvey celebrated his 15th birthday just two weeks ago, and we want to keep that feeling going — to show him that people far beyond his immediate world are thinking of him, rooting for him, and sending him strength. We would love every team reading this to take a moment to send Harvey a birthday card. A few words from your players, a simple message, even just a signature — it all adds up to something truly meaningful. Imagine the impact of dozens, even hundreds, of cards arriving just for him. Let’s come together as a community and give Harvey something unforgettable: the feeling that he is surrounded by support, care, and love. Please send birthday cards to: Team Grassroots 3 Boldon Lane South Shields Tyne and Wear NE34 0AR We will collect and forward every card to Harvey. Thank you for helping us make this happen.

🗣️Show us your team #Shoutout to Holbeck Moor JFC who has a fantastic day on Sunday🤩 ⚽️ First up, our Under 13 Greens won back to back titles, after a fantastic win keeping their 100% league record going. 2 league titles in 2 seasons shows how good this team have become. 🖤⚽️💚 Next our Under 10 Oranges won the Cup! After last years heartache of losing in the final, the boys made sure they didn’t feel the same pain as last year. They battled to the very end with a brilliant victory! 🖤⚽️💚 Finally, to complete the hat trick… our Under 16’s played in the Cup Semi Final against a team a division higher. The lads were brilliant. After going 2-1 up, a sucker punch late on to take the game to penalties… The lads stepped up and delivered, with our Goalkeeper saving 2 of their penalties!🧤🥅 The boys are in their first ever final for the club! 👏💪⚽️ 🖤⚽️💚 #TeamGrassroots #GRF #GrassrootsFootball

Our heart felt condolences goes out to all of his family and everyones lives that Ethan has touched. Rest in peace young man. Forever Our Number 📷

Wow what an inspiration ❤️🥹This is Marley who is currently making waves at the Amputee England Camp! He really is Unstoppable Between the Posts. There are players who play the game, and then there are players who redefine it. Today, we want to take a moment to celebrate Marley, representing at this level isn't just a win for him; it’s an inspiration to every single one of us. To be a "top class" keeper requires more than just quick reflexes and a good reach—it takes a certain kind of "fearless" that you can’t teach. Marley, you remind us that the only real limits are the ones we place on ourselves. You aren’t just guarding the net; you’re showing the world what it looks like to chase a dream with everything you’ve got. Keep soaring, keep diving, and keep proving that greatness knows no bounds. We are all behind you, every step (and save) of the way! 🦁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🐯♥️🖤 #AmputeeFootball #Inspiration #TeamGrassroots #GRF #GrassrootsFootball

Message from a coach for the grassroots community. 🗣️So after 17 years of getting up what feels like every Sunday morning and going training every Tuesday my coaching at grass roots is finally coming to a close,( last game Sunday) I first took it up in 2009 after my first wife had sadly passed 4 years previously. I then undertook my biggest coaching role of bringing up two small children. It’s then that I decided that coaching my oldest boy at under 7s would only enhance our relationship and socially support me too so off I went, ( first child done) After that my youngest boy also took up football and again I coached him and his friends. After temporarily finishing coaching (for a month ) my step son and mates approached me and asked if I could start a team for them, again another great opportunity to bond with my step son, and whilst working at the local school I also coached my step daughters team. I’ve had tears, laughter wins , losses and draws. But now I understand the most important thing the boys and girls have got out of it all has nothing to do with football. It’s the camaraderie, the dealing with adversity in a safe environment, it’s building something together it’s celebrating the highs and supporting the lows, the life lessons they learn are immeasurable compared to the football skills they learn. I suppose that’s what made me so anti “ win at all cost managers” I could write a book on the situations I’ve witnessed and intervened where a child has been treated poorly by a coach or grown up. The message I want to say is this 1 ITS KIDS FOOTBALL, WINNING IS NOTHING IF ITS DONE THE WRONG WAY AND FOR THE WRONG REASONS 2 Your strongest player next year may not be your strongest now, 3 Make it as enjoyable as you can, less than 1% make it, so essentially they are all playing for fun ( even if they win a plastic trophy saying league winners on it) and this should under pin everything you do 4 The way YOU behave as a coach reflects on how the children behave on the pitch, and is a direct reflection on you. pick up poor behaviour and deal with it DO NOT tolerate disrespect, you’ll thank me as they get into the older years. And lastly, enjoy it as it doesn’t last long, with out you guys and gals thousands of children would not be getting all this from it. Coaches, parents, referees and volunteers I salute you all for the work you do enabling children to make fantastic memories, they’ll forget the games they’ll forget the trophies but they’ll never forget the buzz of turning up and playing football with their mates. Thank you for your service Mat Vanes

When one player’s mum lost her hair to cancer, the whole team stood with her. Moments like this are one of the many reasons why grassroots is amazing❤️ #grassrootsfootball #TeamGrassroots #GRF

Thoughts 🤔 Do you agree with how this referee deals with the sidelines in the USA.
