‘At around 11.45pm, the earthquake shook the ground heavily. I heard a loud noise, and I saw the roof of my house fall,’ Ahmad* told us. ‘My two daughters were buried in the rubble.’

After 23 years of abuse, Elisabeth and her husband found hope through a Tearfund partner's training on gender-based violence. Now, three years later, she runs a small business and has a supportive partnership with Jean, who inspires other men to change. 🕊️

Tearfund’s local partners in Eastern Afghanistan are already responding, trying to reach the most affected areas, but access is difficult as landslides have blocked transport routes.

So far, reports are that more than 800 people have died and over 2,500 have been injured, but these numbers may rise significantly as there are still people trapped under the rubble.
