Warranty will not cover water damage, even for "water-resistant" models, it is best to treat your phone as if it has no protection at all. Keep it bone-dry to protect your hard-earned USD. Ultimately, the only advantage of a higher IP rating is that the phone is statistically more likely to survive an accident compared to a lower-rated model, but it is never a guarantee.
